Date: 2004-09-22 09:01 pm (UTC)there were no stings involved, sideways or otherwise. noyes encouraged "complex marriage" among the community members. he believed that people should get their freak on, but never form an emotional attachment. if two people were spending too much of their lovin'-time together, they were broken up. monogamy was considered selfish and was therefore against god's will and threatened the community.
it was all going fine until stupid fundamentalists started harshing noyes' mellow. he fled to canada to avoid persecution and the community basically fell apart without him. the remaining loyalists turned what was left of the community into a joint-stock company. now their tableware factories are still around and stuff. pretty cool, huh?
