One good thing

I forgot to mention the one good thing: my father-in-law is making plans to move up here.

We looked at a place down the road that is so cute! It looks like a little brick cottage!

Also, my last in-person class was today.

So, two good things!

What a damned week

Drunk neighbor tears up my yard at midnight.

My sister calls me a coward for not rushing in to fix things.. and for moving.

Panic attacks in class.

Oh, then my dad dies this morning.

Not sure what to think about that last one: in some ways a shadow has lifted. In some ways, i wish i could punt him.. in others i just feel sorry for him, and the world failed him so hard. I just wish he hadn’t taken it out on us.

Hello, friends! It's about to be December again, and you know what that means: the fact I am posting this actually before December 1 means [staff profile] karzilla reminded me about the existence of linear time again. Wait, no -- well, yes, but also -- okay, look, let me back up and start again: it's almost December, and that means it's time for our annual December holiday points bonus.

The standard explanation: For the entire month of December, all orders made in the Shop of points and paid time, either for you or as a gift for a friend, will have 10% of your completed cart total sent to you in points when you finish the transaction. For instance, if you buy an order of 12 months of paid time for $35 (350 points), you'll get 35 points when the order is complete, to use on a future purchase.

The fine print and much more behind this cut! )

Thank you, in short, for being the best possible users any social media site could possibly ever hope for. I'm probably in danger of crossing the Sappiness Line if I haven't already, but you all make everything worth it.

On behalf of Mark, Jen, Robby, and our team of awesome volunteers, and to each and every one of you, whether you've been with us on this wild ride since the beginning or just signed up last week, I'm wishing you all a very happy set of end-of-year holidays, whichever ones you celebrate, and hoping for all of you that your 2026 is full of kindness, determination, empathy, and a hell of a lot more luck than we've all had lately. Let's go.

Snooooooow

Thanksgiving break has been pretty nice so far.

We discovered this little place in Morrison called The Bread Lady which is a bakery/coffeeshop/learning kitchen/high tea establishment. It is in a former bar and really has Memphis Pizza Cafe Overton Square.. but without the pizza sort of feelings about it. She has a weekly menu where she cooks one thing each day, food is great but the bread. Hoooooooooo the bread! It is literally the best I have ever tasted. We had been desperate to find a bakery since we moved here and it is just one town over. Nice!

It started snowing at about 10 last night and 12 hours later, it is still going. We are at about a foot and a half so far. It is supposed to get hellaciously windy later so we are in for the weekend. I am using the time to finish up my final class projects and to play Katamari.

Thanksgiving itself wasn't very thanksgiving-y. We watched the parade and then just had a day where we did absolutely nothing (which is insanely rare for me!) Dinner was elote (cup style) with a cheese hashbrown casserole.

Also cotija cheese is effing amazing! I have replaced parmesean with it and I am not certain that I will ever go back!
