Really awesome show last night. Disco Volante was first and he was good as always. Then Nonconnah played. The lineup was Zachary, Jacques, Nate, Dave (who was asked to jump in at the last minute since he was already there), and myself. I got to have fun with my new patch that I'd worked so hard on. The crowd was kinda small, actually Street Sects brought out more people than Nonconnah did (there was a handful of younger folks we don't know who came to see them, which is pretty cool). The dancers that were going to perform with Nonconnah didn't. One showed up (Andrea) but since others didn't and she didn't know where or how to dance really, she didn't end up doing it. I'd conceived my patch with dancing in mind, but that's okay. It's always fun to do something different. Street Sects were last and holy shit. That was a live fucking show. They had the fog machines going and almost immediately set off the smoke detector, which is right above the stage so it was going off through the whole set. But they were loud as fuck, really fucking loud, I mean, I just want to emphasize how loud they were, so it was covered pretty well for the most part. And at first it kinda blended in with the music anyway. Somewhere in the middle of their set the Nathan for You reference (the smoke detector as a musical instrument episode) occurred to me so I started cracking up. So yeah, aside from the fog and the smoke detector going off, there was the array of blindingly bright strobe lights. At first I couldn't even look towards the stage (the first one on was intermittent though), but when they got going you got used to the blinding bright white. All this gave a very much haunted house effect to the stage show (timely given what week it is!) and this was only enhanced by the singer's audience interaction. He came out and got in people's faces a bunch. I was standing right front and center so he came to me a few times (even whispered a line or word or two right in my face). So he alternates from this vague flashing shade on stage to running up and screaming at us. During one song he had a chainsaw and ran around the audience with it, you could even smell the gas fumes (did I mention a haunted house vibe?). It was a pretty intense and awesome show. I picked up their cd The Kicking Mule and a t-shirt ("things will be better in Florida"). Then there was work today. It was alright but I worked a little late since I'd gotten kind of on a roll with something and I'd had so many interruptions earlier throughout the day and I've got stuff going on the rest of the week so I knew there wouldn't be any other chance of extra time if needed. Okay, that's about it, I think.
