Yesterday Mary Beth and I went for a walk in the park. I didn't realize how soaking wet with sweat my shirt was until I picked it up again a few hours later after I'd taken it off and it was still soaked! We spent the rest of the evening screening Indie Memphis shorts. I saw one that I thought was really good called A Doll's Hug. Today was We Care Day (née We Serve Day) so I was at work a little earlier. The thing I signed up for was with Clean Memphis and it was going to be cleaning up a pocket park in Orange Mound, but then was changed to a pocket park in Soulsville. It was pretty cool. We were pretty active and I got very dirty and sweaty but it wasn't nearly as brutal as what I did last year! We laid out sod and gravel and topsoil. There was also repainting some of the mural (just on the side of an old building saying "I ♥ Soulsville"). I only painted for a minute as I ended up streaking blue paint on the white lettering and knew that's really not what I should be doing! We were pretty close to the office and we got done relatively quickly so we got back pretty early. May have been the first group back. So we went to the Fedex Forum and got to eat shortly afterwards and then wait around a long time. After a while the make-a-wish kid came. He was very young, like 4. And it was adorable 'cuz the theme was racing and he was going to race the Grizzlies mascot (and I think I heard the Redbirds mascot) but when he saw the Grizzlies mascot he freaked out and started crying and he had to go away. Then he didn't really wanna be in the racecar so his grandmother or someone carried him as they "raced." Anyway, got to get home early and shower! Now I'm home in time to make it to the John Cage rehearsal that's before the actual show.
