ateolf: (METAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Thursday night Mary Beth and I contemplated going out to the grocery store early in advance of MegaDeathStorm, but decided we were situated well enough to wait so the horrible crowds wouldn't've been worth it. Instead we stayed in and had a run of movie watching. First we watched A Field in England and it was really good. Also, I think I neglected to mention that I got The Decline of Western Civilization Collection on Wednesday (I think). Okay, so we watched The Decline of Western Civilization: Part III. It was really good. A lot of it (especially early on) brought on a bit of 90s nostalgia. While I've never been anything close to a gutter punk, I did tangentially hang around something of that sort of hardcore scene. So, in the morning I woke up to the effects of MegaDeathStorm. It was about what I would've expected. There was a light dusting of snow out. The roads outside the house looked fine. So I decided that as fun as it would be to stay in and work from home, the weather wasn't bad enough to justify it. So I went in. In a few patches the roads were a little worse than I saw right by me, especially bridges of course. But it still wasn't terribly bad. And traffic was light with schools and stuff cancelled. So it wasn't bad at all. I stayed in tune for signs of it getting worse, but it didn't. It seemed maybe half or so of the people stayed in and the other half came to work. So I looked good for the people who were there. Overheard one guy on the phone "the people you'd expect to be here are here" and at the end of a scrum meeting the product owner wanting to say something extra as the people calling in hung up, "it's not the people who are there that I'm worried about." Of course wasn't going to hesitate to stay in if it was bad out, but since it wasn't, hey. I brought home a day old loaf of bread from a catered meeting that didn't happen the day before and Mary Beth ended up spontaneously making bread pudding with it! It was fortuitous because that very day a shipment from Jeni's came in! So a la mode action! We combined the bread pudding with a churro ice cream and they were both amazing and amazing together. I'm not sure if this shipment was my ultimate or penultimate. Got a little thrown off on the timeline with them going offline those times and the extra shipment and all that. Anyway, we were both feeling tired and stayed in. I just stayed in bed reading all night. I finished Disgrace by J. M. Coetzee. I really liked it, probably much to Mary Beth's chagrin (she likes him but not that book). I'm still really mulling it all over in my mind. Now it's today and I've woken up and yeah.
