The show last night was a lot of fun. Jacques and I ended up being the only ones to bring the gear over, but we got almost everything in one trip. I did go back for a couple things and Mary Beth, but I forgot the cymbals so I had to make a third trip, doh. Dave Norwood (of The Gary) played a nice solo set. Then we played. I thought we rocked it pretty hard. We scheduled a relatively rockin' kinda set for the whole karaoke show thingie. But I ended up playing a couple things faster than we'd ever practiced them (the rockin'er songs I drummed on). Here's the setlist:
Cameras
Safety Corridor
Like Clockwork
Death Blow
Lost Year
Sloppy (I Saw My Baby Gettin')
A Series of False Starts
"Cameras" one of the better performances we've done (practice or live, haven't played it live much). This is in spite of the fact that I was a beat off for most of the first verse (had to fix the hi-hat mid-song and it's a little hard to hear behind the drums). If you'd never heard the song before you wouldn't know something was wrong. Also I was worried 'cuz lately I've dropped the sticks AT LEAST once EVERY time we've played it for the past few weeks. I didn't drop them, yay (though I actually did while testing/adjusting the drums before we played it). The end of "Safety Corridor" kinda fell apart, but that's okay. The crowd was pretty small so no one signed up to sing the Devo cover, but I gave a last second plea to the crowd and Kaleb (the guy who runs Karaoke Underground) stepped up and sang with us (and was FUCKING awesome, by the way, I couldn't see from the drums but he apparently did some good Devo moves). I also played this one way faster than we'd ever practiced. See, I didn't realize it was SO fast til after we were into it. But we kept it up. I actually couldn't do the last bass drum kick it was so fast, but the speed also covered it up pretty well. It was shambolic, but awesome.
Karaoke Underground was a blast as usual. I sang three songs: "Rabies (Baby's Got The)" (fuck yeah!), "Pat's Trick" (though it'd been a while since I heard it and I started off getting it mixed up with another Helium song, probably "Trixie's Star" but I got my bearings somewhat, eventually), and "Bata Motel." Towards the end Kaleb sang "I'm a Potato" and dedicated it to us.
A few of the FastTrackers showed up for the show and that was pretty cool. Some of them actually seemed into it. I heard a couple "That was awesome!"s with a level of excitement that went beyond polite. Unexpected, but that's cool.
Today's been kind of a bust as we got up super late and I've been lazy. But I need to get back to working on my damn project. About to. I've pretty much taken care of all the user account stuff (granted, the easy stuff). I was stuck a bit on the calculating flights part. I had an idea that was pretty simple, but then my classmates started talking about Dijkstra's algorithm and seeing how involved it is, I figured what I had planned couldn't take care of everything. Then Jonathan gave us a hint at the end of Friday, which was pretty much my original plan, and alluded to the folly of trying to use a fancier algorithm. At least I felt less hopeless. Also, my brain was discombobulated from that damn blackblue/goldwhite dress. I seem to randomly see it at either of the two color schemes (maybe leaning more towards gold and white). And the time I got it to switch in front of my eyes melted my fucking head. Okay, enough mumbo jumbo. Oh yeah, and Friday was instructor Jonathan's last day with us (he's switching to the newer class that's already started). Richard will be finishing the last week with us. Damn, only one more week.
