Did It!

I passed my final! And even crazier, I start working (you know, paid work) tomorrow!

Most of the past week has been spent with pretty intense work on the project. Much overcome frustration and nights that got later and later. Richard gave some good advice (Jonathan switched over to teaching a new class this week and Richard took over for the very end) that was about the last thing I put to use. I was struggling with my algorithm. It was working correctly as I could see in my output to the console, but the information was being lost. He'd suggested writing a new class that was just a simplified version to test the logic for the algorithm. So I did and it didn't take me too long to figure out how to fix my problem. Now I've learned a good bit about how Java handles object references. Okay, enough nerd-talk.

Our stuff was graded on Thursday. Wednesday night we had more snow hit Memphis I've seen in a long time. We got the word that the instructor was going to be there to grade the stuff, but we didn't have to come in if we didn't think we could make it. Everybody ended up coming in, wanting to get this over with! I made it in, but almost thought I wouldn't be able to! I tried to get out the parking lot on Madison, but my car was getting stuck. There's a slight incline in that direction, so after some scooting and reversing I was able to maneuver in the other direction to the back street. Well, as soon as I got onto that street my car was really stuck. Couldn't go forward couldn't go backward, spinning tires and all that shit. I got out with my ice scraper and smashed up the compacted ice under my tires. That worked and I was able to move again. Some people down the street had started walking towards me to help me, but I'd gotten it moving by the time they got there. The roads were worse than the time it iced a few weeks ago. At least it wasn't precipitating. Bob and Jonathan both showed up. We were worried Bob was gonna be in on the grading. But it was just Jonathan (well, Richard too a little I guess) looking at them. He tore through 'em all pretty quick. Now, mine was by far the ugliest in the whole class. I wasn't too concerned with looks. And anyway I'd gotten some stuff working that others didn't. So I was happy with that. However, he went through it so quickly he wouldn't've seen evidence for some of the stuff. We had to wait for Bob to get back before he told us anything. I was getting nervous with the waiting. Frank had picked up food for everyone, they'd wanted something better but McDonalds was the only place open. And while waiting nervously I even ate a second burger and fries (the last of each and they were cold...and bad...). But we all passed! They started with everyone in the first row together. We went back into the little room that was set up into a makeshift office. Bob just gave us a little speech. Jonathan (Noodles) told Jordan we had to answer all these hard questions and freaked him out. Two of the students were called in separately at the end, but they passed too. I think they just had some specific stuff to tell 'em.

Thursday evening I went back out and met Jonathan and Oliver at the Fox and Hound. Getting in a last hanging out chance.

I had been contacted about a job that would be at ServiceMaster. Starting the 16th or possibly later in the month if delayed. There were two positions and three Memphians and I think they talked to everyone about it. Well, Friday just a couple hours before leaving for the graduation dinner I got an email saying that I was starting on this Monday. Kinda freaked out about it, in a good way. At the dinner they mentioned I was starting Monday and Patrick was starting the next Monday (or maybe a few days earlier in the middle of the week). I also find it weird that I'm first.

Anyway, the dinner was pretty nice. It was at Amerigo's. We had a little room in the back. Jonathan's wife flew down for it (with his three to four month old baby...awww...) and Anderson's girlfriend too (though they were at the other table and I didn't get a chance to talk to her). By now most of the out of towners are back home or wherever. Gonna miss 'em. Some awesome dudes.

Yesterday Mary Beth and I sat around and had some pizza and stuff. We finished the second season of Brooklyn 99 and started in on the newest season of Archer. I need to do a little boning up on whatever new technologies I need to know for this job. In other news, my other laptop (the less old and less broken one) just will not fucking start up. I don't know if it's dead or what. Pretty annoying. At least I have most of my shit on this one (which is poking me with a stick to remember to back this shit up, yeah). Oh yeah, and it was so weird leaving the work laptop on Thursday. So used to carrying it around now. Anything else? No? Okay.
