On the Job

Not a whole lot to report about my first day actually employed...working at ServiceMaster. Spent a goodly bit of yesterday completing new hire paperwork at home...insurance and etc. Actually, took longer than expected and I got to bed a little bit late. But I started off going to Cook and dropped it off and the guy that's sort of a liason between Cook and ServiceMaster guided me over. The places aren't far from each other. The guy who's my manager there seems pretty cool. Most of the day was really just waiting to get access to stuff. Got a laptop right away, but took a bit of time to get a login and I still don't have admin access to install the stuff I need. Got tech support to remote install something, didn't get a chance to see if they installed everything (they said they couldn't do the Java, but maybe they did, who knows). A whole group went and had lunch at the Germantown Commissary. Spent some time with the guy who I guess is something of my partner. John. He seems pretty coool. He's a FastTracker from two classes before mine (graduating in early December...though the class "after" his mostly overlapped only ending a few weeks later). It took him a lot longer to get deployed (things being much slower around the holiday times). And he also moved to Memphis and only to have the assignment delayed a few weeks on top of that. So I guess I'm pretty lucky to get deployed with literally no time at all. I even got to be in a meeting today. Hopefully I'll be able to get my bearings as to how their setup works pretty soon. I'm sure I will, but hopefully it doesn't take me too long.
