ateolf: (MEEEEEEERY CHRIIIIIIIISTMAS HAHAHAHA!!!!)
friday night i dragged Mary Beth to see Yo La Tengo with me at the Gibson Lounge (which i'd never been to...it's a pretty shitty venue...very yuppieish...) the opening act was some dude from Lambchop and i thought he was pretty terrible...Yo La Tengo played a bit of an acoustic-ish set...i was a little worried when i started to see their set up, but then it was a good show...they also did question/answer rounds between each song which pretty much dictated what song they'd play next, so there wasn't any setlist (except like the opening stuff...maybe another song or two were planned, but anyway...) they played a lot of good stuff too...very little from the new album...only two songs (one being one of the worst songs from it "Mr, Tough," but the other was one of the two actual really great songs from it "Pass the Hatchet, I Think I'm Goodkind" which was one of the highlights of the show...) some more highlights were "Stockholm Syndrome" um...they did "Tom Courtenay" but of course i enjoy it more when it's more rockin'...ooh they also did "Nuclear War" which i wouldn't've expected but then makes since stripped down as it kind of is anyway...anyway the show was good and the question/answering was entertaining...the crowd was really funny/lame...i overheard a few funny conversations in the bathroom...more funny for the fratty tone of voice than the actual content i guess...anyway, uh, there was some game so the parking garages were full (at least one we tried to go to, which paying for parking is something i almost never do out of principal or whatever) and as a result we ended up parking free somewhat far away...my point, on our way back to the car we stopped off and had a Memphis Moment™ and ate at Dyers on Beale St...

yesterday we went over to my grandmother's and hung out for a little bit...after that we went home and walked over to Jacques and Amber's...Jason came over and we did some christmasing...i got from Jacques and Amber: Debris':Static Disposal, Throbbing Gristle: Part Two: the Endless Not, Should You Be Laughing at This? by Hugleikur Dagsson, Novels in Three Lines by Félix Fénéon, a dvd entitled Película Doble: 4 Hembras y un Macho Menos/Todos Queremos con Ella (some fun wackiness en español), and then a bunch of food stuffs...and from Jason i got: Wire: Read & Burn 03 and some more food stuffs...we ate at India Palace and i got some okra stuff i'd never had before that was so fuckin' awesome! (though i had bad gas the rest of the night...not that anything there WOULDN'T give me bad gas...) we tried to meet Brad and Sherry at the P&H but we don't think they were there and there was some terrible hippie band playing with a $5 cover...anyway, then more sitting around Jacques and Amber's...that's about it, i think...
