ateolf: (Robert points the bone at you)
i didn't do too much studying last night, but i think i did okay on my calc exam...not great but we'll see...on my way to physics class i ran into John Grizzle, a former fellow high school band percussionist (the section leader, actually...) and had a brief on-the way to class exchange w/ him...it was cool seeing him again...i was a little late for physics, but that do'n matter...then after physics i got my exam from two weeks ago back and...i got a fucking 98!!! boojyeah!!! or something...that's actually close to what i was expecting...i lost one point for something really stupid...i actually did the thing right, i just wrote it down wrong at the beginning, but didn't do it the wrong way...but 'ay! a 98's a fockin' 98...ran into this hardassmothafucka on the way to my car and showed off my recently obtained grade to her...it's a slight improvement over the 48 i got on the first exam, i'd say...then i went over to The Apartment and woke David's ass up...we then proceeded to Piggly Wiggly where we purchased our tixxx for the final night of the Memphis in May Beale Street Music Festival (read: Sonic Youth)...so ummm...phuck yea...this cd is REALLY REALLY great stuff...then we sat around some and then we went and ate at Fino's, we both had the fockin' New York fockin' sanmwich! (tasty stuff too...) then back at The Apartment he passed out again so i went back home...i guess i'll be doing my operating systems hw that was due yesterday today...if i don't maintain my procrastinatory habbits too badly...
--------
something funny: our first day in NYC, whilst walking around aimlessly, we saw Anthony Kedis and Flea...they looked just a little bit lost as well...and short...we should've pushed 'em over or something...(RRROIGHT!)
and i'll never be able to eat honey roasted peanuts out of a can again...not after the magnificent (and waaaaarm) breed of honey roasted peanut that came from a street vendor in Central Park...mmm...roasted...

now that's New York Fuckin' City!
wed night: we saw Ruins play at the Knitting Factory...it was completely amazing...if you wanna read my (bad) review of it, please check out my Art Punk community, as i posted it there and don't feel like doing so twice...(it's pretty long anyhow...) and if you don't care, then all's perfect...
thurs night: Two Dollar Guitar at the Knitting Factory...that was really good...i'll prob'ly go into greater detail later...but it was mostly just Tim playing (w/ help from Christina Rosenvinge for about half the set...) gotta hear a few of the new songs...which was cool...
friday night: The Spacewürm at Tonic...that was pretty good...electronic stuff...a bit on the dance side...he did incorporate the use of a scanner...there was another act that was pretty good too...i forget the name...but it was one guy doing the electronics and another guy making up jazzy/funkay basslines along w/ it...as David pointed out, it was cool how the electronic stuff didn't have any musical key (mostly just rhythmic/noisish stuff) so the bassist could play whatever he wanted...they each played a couple songs then left and some jazz band that didn't look too interesting started setting up...apparentely they were continuing the show downstairs at SubTonic (Polar Bear Club)...at first it was some guy djing...(oh the downstairs club place is really cool...they made booths out of wooden water resevoir tank thingies...really neat looking...although just a little bit crowded and awkwardly shaped to watch the performers...as well as the video stuff that was happening as well...that was extremely cool...the guys were using some kind of software for the apple (powerbook?) laptop...and improvising images w/ patches they had programmed...) after the dj, the other acts started playing again, going back and forth w/ each song...they mostly played the same stuff they played upstairs...but this time it sounded better...i guess the preveious show was kind've a warm-up/soundcheck type of thing...it got a little late and we left after they were done...
sat night: we saw William Hooker (a god of the drums, you might could say...) play...i'll go into the details of this show later too...one cool thing though, between the sets we chilled wif William and his wife (Youseef) a little...it was *extremely* rad-o...they're incredibly nice...we mostly talked about New York and Memphis...cities and whatnot...but it was pretty fucking cool hanging out, shootin' tha' shit w/ William Hooker...rubbin' elbows w/ tha NYC avant-garde "celebrities," if you will...we were gonna just stick around for the first set and then go to the other Ruins show at Tonic, but we got to talking w/ the Hookers (oh hush, you children) and stayed around for the second set...afterwards we hurried and grabbed a taxi (as a further completion of the New Yawk Fockin' Experience...) and made it to the Ruins show...we were a little late, but we still made it well enough...this show is also talked about in my latest Art Punk post...also, in the taxi, i realized i had left my camera at the place, so after the Ruins show i called the guy up and we returned and retrieved it...

that's all for now...and i'm excited 'cuz there's actually gonna be 3(!) good shows w/in the next two months here in Memphis...while in New York, we made it to a show more than once a night! and saw Ruins twice! whereas a band like that wouldn't (and doesn't) even come to Memphis at all...[sigh]
