Regression

Mary Beth and I went downtown to Court Square to check out the food trucks (I'm sure driving TO a food truck kind of defeats the purpose, but whatever). I got a package in the mail. A few of the Criterions I ordered from the Barne & Nobel sale arrived: A Hollis Frampton Odyssey, Tanner '88, and Up All Night with Robert Downey Sr. I went to work recording to finish that song I'd been working on. The first two tracks I made, weeks ago: the bass and the Prophet, had made it the thing I'm most proud of in my solo music ventures. Unfortunately, most of the shit I've done to it since then has diminished its quality. I added some more drums (toms) and some more synth effects yesterday. I mixed it down and was trying to decide whether it was finished or not. The drums are too sloppy. I really need to start all over with all that shit. I'm pretty bummed about it, but what can you do? I don't like making a song worse than it was. That's stupid. I do think it will benefit from drums, but they need to fucking sound good. Moving on. Late last night Jacques came over and we went to the Buccaneer to see some free show. The first band was Human Beings and they had stuff that was plain bad and stuff that was kinda good and stuff in between. The next band was Ox Ice who I'd seen before and hated. I didn't hate 'em so much this time. There were some things I kinda liked. Overall, still not in love, but, yeah. Last was Gelatinous Cubes. I didn't mind them. We left during their set. It was late and I was barely awake at this point.
