yesterday at work i finished reading Hell House by Richard Matheson...i guess i have to start actually talking about the books i've read sooner or later so here we go...this book was a bit problematic plot-wise...and of course suspending disbelief for supernatural and horror stuff...most of the plot stuff doesn't really make much sense...and it seems Matheson would be a better mystery writer...the book starts off alright...entertaining enough, until stuff starts actually happening...for the most part the writing's alright, though when the dialog gets dramatic it gets a bit goofy...and all the ghost stuff, eh, pretty goofy as well...his style's not very effective when stuff happens...and he explains too much of what's going on...and the ghosts are too physical in the book to be scary...i mean, ghosts and stuff are scary when and because you don't know what's going on...when you get a full detailed description of a ghost it's just not really that scary anymore...i mean, maybe it can be, it wasn't in this book anyway...and i won't even go into the ending which completely contradicts itself...it doesn't contradict the rest of the book, it just contradicts itself...it's pretty sloppy...anyway, the book was better earlier on when it has more of the atmosphere of a mystery novel...and i think Matheson may have been better suited for that stylistically...okay, well now i feel like i've written a review...anyway, i went to work early today...now i'm off work earlier than usual...how about that?

I tried reading this book several years ago and it was the 'goofiness' that kept me from liking it too. I'm totally fine with suspending my disbelief, etc., but I remember the dialog being really cliched and utterly retarded. I'm curious now about the ending because I couldn't even finish it at the time. Maybe I'll give it another shot?

i don't know if the ending is worth it just for its own sake...it just gave this "explanation" that contradicted itself...i can just spoil it for you if you'd like and save you the effort...
