test and trip
Jul. 28th, 2009 06:14 pmfriday evening Mary Beth and i had dinner with my parents...we initially were going to go to Las Tortugas but it was packed and my dad isn't one to wait so we went to The Butcher Shop instead...as a birthday present they gave us this shelf cabinet thingie that we haven't had time to assemble being out of town and all...i also got a replacement phone so now i'm able to receive calls again...that's always nice...so of course saturdady morning was the test...i think i mentioned my plan of waking up an hour earlier each day to be ready for the early test time...well, i was doing that but after procrastinating a little i was up really late anyway so my whole plan of being up early and well rested was a bust...anyway, the test went OKAY i THINK...time was not on my side...there were people taking some other subject's praxis tests in the room i was in and most were finished like thirty minutes to an hour before time was up...i think the few working til the end were taking the math test too...i know i didn't do great...but hopefully the low standards will be enough...the night before i took praxis's practice test (a retired test from last year) and passed by a decent margin (didn't ace it or nothin' but was pretty far away from the cutoff mark...) hopefully that'll reflect something on this year's version...
so i finished the test in just enough time to throw my stuff in a bag to be picked up and go to the airport...since they're charging extra for non-carryon items and you can't really bring toiletries (i.e. liquids and gels without bothering with crazy restrictions) on a carryon i packed REALLY light and worried about that stuff when we got there...of course having woken up on very little sleep and then traveling all day i was dead tired...we got a digital camera as a birthday present from Mary Beth's parents...so, the shower was sunday and it went alright...i mean, stuff like that tends to be a bit awkward especially when you're the center of attention of people you don't know very well and don't know at all...but it wasn't so bad...several of Mary Beth's friends were there and it was cool meeting them...then yesterday we stopped by the House of Guitars record store and i picked up a few cds against my better judgement: James Brown: Foundations of Funk: a Brand New Bag: 1964-1969, Autechre: Untilted, and Tangerine Dream: Ricochet...anyway...and then we made it back this afternoon...well i guess that brings us up to date...
