i forgot to mention that yesterday i got my replacement component for my theremin...so today i worked on replacing it, with some desoldering help from Dustin...but (even though it did need replacing 'cuz it was physically broken and i will need a new one later) it didn't fix the problem and it's still not working...Dustin and i spent a bunch of time on it tonight, but to no avail...i emailed PAiA and maybe next week will have some suggestions as to what's wrong...and today in the mail: Whitehouse: Buchenwald and Eno Moebius Roedelius: After the Heat...i also forgot to mention that yesterday Mary Beth and i went to thrift town and while driving in the area past central church we saw, well, central church...i guess they felt they had to out-ridiculous bellevue's humongous crosses of death, and while they didn't come up with something so large, it's certainly far far more ridiculous...it is still very large, a *ahem* giant replica of the statue of liberty (well, not nearly so giant as the original of course) and instead of holding a torch it has a very large cross that's about half the size of the ms. liberty herself and there's some chain hanging off of the feet and below it is the large caption "AMERICA RETURN TO GOD" or something that's almost that...it's pretty horrifying...somewhat repellant...yeah, christians...anyway...

okay, apparently central church moved, and the church that takes up its old building is *ahem* the World Overcomers Outreach Ministries Church...i found this new york times article on the statue: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/05/us/05liberty.html?ex=1309752000&en=633335bb68bac96a&ei=5088
it's on the corner of winchester and kirby...
oh shit, i'm looking at other sites that pull up in this search...yikes...there's some funny responses to a commercial appeal blog that was about this story... http://blogs.commercialappeal.com/blake/archives/2006/06/lets_hope_the_f.html
the comment on the bottom of the page is the best...

HAHAHA!

I love religious nuts. As long as they stay far away from me.

Huzzah, the state of theocracy as it's been named. Kinda funny how the companies on Winchester could take the crime for years but that statue goes up and suddenly half of the businesses finally close or relocate.

What are you talking about Robert? That thing is the most awesome thing to happen to Memphis in years. I hear the church is planning on something bigger and tackier, and I for one can't wait.

I was thinking about a giant eagle carrying an american flag in one claw and a cross in another claw and tearing up some non-believers with another claw! Or they could get real ghetto and have a big jesus peeing on a model of Bellevue.
