saturday night i went to see Built to Spill with Josh...the show was pretty good though the crowd was...yikes! i'm sure the frat to indie ratio was at least double on the frat side...i mean, i guess it's not surprising for some frat dudes to be listening to them, but the extent was overwhelming...it was like a fucking frat party! the deli just sucks for shows (that's an aside...though lately they cater to the frat types anyway...) the layout is bad for large shows...it gets hot, crowded...the people that go there suck, the people that run it suck...it's just a really sucky place...although i'm sure the food's still good and it remains a worthwhile eatery...anyway, lots of fist pumping when the poppier songs came on...also they only did one song from my favorite album (Perfect from Now On.) and much of stuff that, while i like, i don't like so much...well their playing was great...the song that's the first song off their new album is REALLY fucking good...so i should get their newer album sometime...

yesterday Mary Beth and i went to the fair...the weather was perfect...i hadn't been in like 15 years or something...i'd kinda wanted to go the last few times so i went this time...i'm glad i went but i can stand to wait another 15 years before going again...i mostly wanted to go for fair food...which when you're a kid you don't realize how overpriced it is...oh and i was sorely disappointed by the variety...they had a few stock types of food that repeated every 5 booths...things i'd remembered weren't there anymore...and don't get me started on Pronto Pup! how there was litterly one at least every 20 yards, THAT pissed me off! no more Rhienland, but this! we got fudge...and there was this indoor booth thingie of spices and olde-timey type stuff...the guy working was pretty swell...i was wearing a Moog shirt and he talked briefly about moogs and organs...and how his cousins or nephews were in the band that did "Hang on Sloopy" and after that band was over the organ player played with him...just semi-pointless anectodal stuff but that's what makes the world go round so i couldn't help but buy a thing of jalapeño sauce from him...i did enjoy the school artwork...oh yeah and we walked down the medians of parkway there and back...a good idea considering how scarce parking seemed to be...i was full and tired and ended up sleeping 12 fucking hours last night! so i've been rested today...i guess that's it...

The last time I went to the fair, our best food find was a stand that would spriral cut an entire russet potato into one giant curl and then deep frie it. They had different kinds of seasoned salt you could sprinkle on, and it was amazing. I also am a fan of the funnel cakes.

they had those places...i didn't have one of those though...i had an elephant ear instead of funnel cake...even ihop has funnel cakes, but where else are ya gonna get an elephant ear!?

The parking for the Deli always sucks, too, whenever there's a show.

everytime i think of going to see BtS someone i know relays something like, yeah pretty good if you wanna watch 'cowgirl in the sand' for 45 mins, and i effectively get talked out of it. but i'd really want to see em.

the frat presence is strong in any of the middle ground bands in the venn diagram of jambands -> indie rock, possibly the worst offender is malkmus/pavemet, i seriously thought i was at rusted root. sonic youth has quite a few hippie fans as well.

it wasn't even the hippie side of it! it was straight up hazing/date raping frat boys...it was pretty bad...
