May. 9th, 2018 08:30 pmLast night Mary Beth and I went to see Family Friend (an Indie Memphis/Memphis in May screening, this year is celebrating the Czech Republic so we've got quite a few more Czech films coming up, mostly new wave but this one was a more recent movie). It was good. It had a slow pace and was pretty detailed and kind of described family life during the Nazi occupation. The director Jan Hrebejk was there for a qa afterwards (with translation by someone from the embassy who bemoaned not being a translator). It was pretty good though he did seem to get very mildly testy at just a couple of kinda dumb questions. It was a pretty long movie and I missed getting to do my exercising. Anyway, there was work today. I finished reading The Review of Contemporary Fiction Spring 2012 | Vol. XXXII: Robert Coover Festchrift. It was alright. A mix of some stuff. After work I exercised right away and then found out Mary Beth was going to walk over to the Brooks for a lecture on architecture that's part of Memphis in May as well (Kamil Mrva). He had a pretty minimal style, kinda earthy too. Lots of stuff with wood, which I wasn't as into (at least this bright kinda wood that feels kinda suburban). There was stuff with other materials (including my favorite, concrete!) that I was more into. It was pretty interesting to see anyway. While we were there we got to have a peek at the exhibit of African dresses before walking back home.
