On Thursday Mary Beth and I walked up to the Malco for this concert-type thingie sponsored by Indie Memphis. It was Cory McAbee who's done some movies and is touring with this musical thing of his that's a fake "self-help" type of seminar. It was kinda karaoke to the music with words projected on the screen. For the most part I didn't find it terribly funny. It was pretty negative in a "don't bother trying to do anything" sort of vein of which I like the idea and at times it was mildly amusing, but the whole effect didn't really strike a chord with me. Also on Thursday I got a package in the mail. It came from China so it went through customs and in the description on the outside of the envelope it said "sex toy." This was extremely hilarious on quite a few levels. First, they really didn't even have to put that. It was just some dice, "novelty" (ahem) dice but still, dice. Second, any mail that just blatantly says "sex toy" on the outside is pretty funny since all the hands that it goes through can see it (I guess they don't believe in discretion over in China). And also, because of the two previous reasons combined, whoever would have the package and read the description and could see and feel its size and weight would wonder what kind of small-ass sex toy I'm gettin' over here.

Friday I realized Mary Beth did not get my "steamed hams" Simpsons reference (she'd never seen 22 Short Films about Springfield!) so we remedied that and watched another episode or two from season seven. Yesterday I did a few things. First, it was the democratic party's delegate nomination thingie. So I went over to that church on Broad. It was kinda exciting 'cuz on the one hand it was all new to me and I didn't know how it would work. On the other hand, yeah, it was waiting in a line to sit around in some seats and finally just sign a list. It was broken up into groups by candidate and district. Shelby County has all of district 9 (my district and generally Memphis) and part of district 8 (some of the outskirts of the county). So of course I was in the Sanders 9 group. Sadly Bernie only got two delegates from our county, one in each district. It's all by gender so the committee picked a male for district 8 and a female for district 9 (I believe they alternate which gender starts). So Mike and Adam, who were gonna run for our group, aren't able and it's just Emma! There may or may not be another female running, there's someone who apparently said both she was and wasn't so no one was really sure. Anyway, our group had nice little print outs for Emma (and the other delegates we are/were running in the two districts). So the way it works is that there's a limit on the bottom-level delegates, who are the ones who vote on the real delegates who will go to the actual DNC, but none of the groups reached this limit so it was just if you showed up you ended up being one of the lowly delegates. So I'm now a delegate! Democracy! So this means I show up in two weeks to actually vote for Emma. Pretty exciting, but still a bummer that we only got one delegate. Yeah, Bernie did not do well in Shelby County. Before it started Steve Cohen was there and saying hi to everyone (he didn't stay long because there's some funeral, and some other local political figures apparently weren't there because of it). He was talking to some people in our group and said something along the lines of he was Bernie before Bernie (this wasn't it exactly, but something expressing a similar sentiment). I didn't say anything to him, but I should have been like then why didn't you endorse him!? I generally love Steve Cohen, so I don't hold it against him, but still.

Okay, after that I went over to work for another "anime" and junk food thingie. There wasn't any actual anime watched this time (well, they started to watch something right as I was leaving which was kinda later in the evening). What did we do? Stephen brought a retro duo and a bunch of games so... First we watched people play Super Mario World. Then we watched a few episodes of Strangers with Candy. Then... we watched people play Super Mario World even more! It was some fun. Carrie is leaving and her last day will be Tuesday. She's going to Lokion so it's possible she'd end up back at ServiceMaster. But who knows. There's a going-away party tomorrow. Okay, what else? That's about it.
