A lot went on this week, I guess. On Thursday I did some Memphis for Bernie flyering for the debate watching event at Local on the Square (October 13th). I headed the Overton Square group. Had a pretty good amount of people. We got kicked off the Square by security though (I was there a good while and it took 'em longer to get to me). He was nice and said he liked Bernie and hated doing it and thought it was especially dumb since the flyers were for an event on the Square, but didn't want to get in trouble. I argued back very politely that I didn't think we were doing anything wrong since it's a public sidewalk. Anyway, did it up to the point I ddin't wanna make a big thing and moved to the next block after that (after giving him a flyer). As we were leaving, he came back to us and said he went to his boss to make sure and that we can do it as long as we were something like 48 inches from the buildings or whatever. Okay, did a few more but we were on the way out. The groups met back up at Aldo's. Had a pretty good time (though I woke up in the middle of the night with fierce diarrhea!).
Thursday I did Habitat for Humanity in the morning. I literally raised the roof. We were putting up a roof (and some stuff with the window frames). I helped push up the frames for the roof. That and a good bit of hammering. It was a pretty good time. After lunch I went home, took a shower, and worked from home the rest of the day. I actually worked well past my work time 'cuz I got an email from Cook about this tax issue I've been tangentially working on for a long time (back and forth with the database team 'cuz the tax is actually calculated on their side). It had been a long time 'cuz they kept wanting me to call new packages on the database side. Well, in order to call them I had to wait for them to make changes on their side so we could actually do it. So there was a lot of back and forth. Anyway, the new packages ended up getting the same result as the old one so there was a lot of time spent on a dead end. So real fucking annoyed that Cook was involved, like I was just sitting around slacking or wasting time or some shit.
Anyway, after all that Mary Beth and I went to the Death Grips show. I was reserved as they were so bad last time we saw them. But this time it was much better. I was really into it. All three members were there. I thought they brought it and had a great time. "Guillotine" (easily my favorite song of theirs) was incredible. They played it a bit differently than the recording and it ruled. They played against a backdrop of red lights so they were just sillhouettes. It was a pretty awesome effect and actually somewhat menacing. I enjoyed it. Walked away with a couple shirts.
Was really tired yesterday. But at work I worked on that issue some more. Turns out I'd actually solved it the night before but thought the miscalculation was happening differently. What it was is that the databse ignored quantities of 0 and just added up every taxable amount sent in regardless. I added logic to only add actual quantities and saw the change. At the time I thought there was something else going on as well. Anyway, we had just gotten to the point where we realized the new tax package was getting the same results so it was a dead end and we were able to just start looking at finding a solution for the actual problem. I don't know why they just couldn't find that on their end. Anyway, that fix worked. But in the morning at the stand up this one guy (Srini) mentioned he talked to the Cook people (he's also with Cook, a manager-type not sure exactly what he does). So really what the fuck. He was the one pushing me to call this other tax package. He always goes on like I'm doing something wrong with Java or don't underastand. I went for a while in an earlier meeting stressing the things I needed them to do to be able to call and he kinda tends to ignore me and talk in circles. So officially fuck this guy. I'm not out here cowboy coding. I've been constantly getting help from others and working with others on this. Anyway. I'm rambling. But it pisses me off a lot. That's the kind of shit they look at for my raises. And they don't know shit about what's happening on the outside, they just see the one time they heard anything about me I wasn't able to do my job. Okay, must move away from thinking about this shit anymore. I did get some great sleep last night.
