Alright so we rocked out at a show last night. A few people said it was one of the better shows we've played. I'll take their word for it. A lot didn't sound right to me on stage, but that's not always an accurate measure.
Ihcilon (Paul Maceri) was first. He had a desktop, a tablet, and a phone and it was really fucking good. Electronic drone stuff. It was his first solo gig out. I really enjoyed it. Coordinated Suicides were next (they're from Wisconsin and Mike, the singer, is one of Jacques's online friends). They were also really good. They do the noise rock like, a bit in the realm of Unsane. It was a pretty disparate lineup and that's pretty awesome. Oh and their drummer pounded the fucking drums harder than maybe anyone I've seen.
Okay, then there's our set:
Like Clockwork
Death Blow
Visitant
A Series of False Starts
Battle Chant
Lost Year
I don't guess there's a whole lot else to say about it. Some mess ups, but nothing terrible. Paul was using his new bass amp and I get the impression (one I've had before, but when using amps not as "good" at it) that Paul just likes his bass to sound like complete fucking mud. When I got to the bass towards the end, I had to find the built-in compression knob and turn it the fuck down. That sounds bitchy, whatever. I'm not as bitched-off about it as I'm sure I sound.
Not too much other than that. Before the show Mary Beth and I went to Crosstown Arts to see these two exhibits. The first was of these pseudo-Oriental wall hangings this married couple did. I think they were prints. They were quite good. A lot of things that kind of looked like things but then were off and somewhat alien. Our timing was off for the next exhibit. We thought it was just opening for the day, but they were taking stuff down. Whoops. They did let us look around and we got to see most of it. It was postmodern scuplture. Some of what I saw was good though we were in a hurry to see quickly and get out of their way. Alright that's about it for now.
