ateolf: (the goat...BITCH!)
Pretty exciting and eventful past couple days. Saturday Mary Beth and I went and finally got that massage. It was pretty nice. Sunday got up to have band practice. Paul was late but the rest of us worked out something new Ryan brought in. It's kinda rockin' a little straightforward. I play drums on it. It's pretty fun. We do some interesting things and I have some ideas. Afterwards Mary Beth and Jacqes and I went to eat at Robata. I hadn't been. It was pretty good. The ramen was good. Anyway we get there and who should be there but Ryan with Ben (who lives in Chicago now). So that was kinda cool and funny. Okay. And after Jacques leaves, Mary Beth and I are sitting on the patio enjoying the wonderful spring weather that's finally here. After a little bit, the whole Summitt family walks by on their way somewhere. So we jumped out and said hello. I hugged Lila and picked her up over my shoulder. Okay, a surprise little hello. Then Mary Beth and I walked home. Again enjoying the lovely weather.

In the evening it was the motherfucking Wolf Eyes show! I went and picked Jacques up and realized I had forgotten my earplugs. So I had to turn around and get 'em, of course. Well, it was fortitous as Mary Beth (who was thinking she'd go) had decided not to go but then changed her mind again after I had left. So when I came back home, she joined us after all. It's funny as Wolf Eyes had been the ONE band I like a lot she hadn't ever cared for (including all the other wonderful noisy stuff I listen to and love). But she ended up liking them while seeing them play, so that's cool. Anyway, David was there and Josh showed up a little later. The First band (J Fernandez?) were good. It was a surprise as they weren't what I was expecting opening for Wolf Eyes. They were indie rock with some slightly krauty overtones (especially in the bass). Kinda reminded me of Pell Mell or Couch or some Yo La Tengo. They were good. The second guy is a local Memphis rap dude who apparently does stuff with Cities Aviv (who I don't care for). I wasn't really into his set either. It wasn't terrible or anything thoguh. HIs set was super short.

Okay, and then Wolf Eyes. They were really good. Oh, I should add that the venue was Glitch, an art gallery that's in someone's house. Art gallery in the sort-of diy punk sense. I hadn't been before, but it was pretty cool. So we got to see Wolf Eyes in what was essentially a house show. I was right up front and center, after the first song the guy who lives there/runs it told everyone to move foward 'cuz more people had showed up and it was getting crowded. So then I ended up being like less than a foot from the band. It was pretty awesome. One guy played a Synthrotek kit (Atari Punk Console, I think it is) attached to a belt (he'd sometimes play soprano sax too). One dude played guitar. The singer mostly sang (which switching the delay on and off and sometimes blowin' the harmonica through a freqbox). It was a really good show and a lot of fun. I picked up a shirt and two live cdrs: Live Oakland and Trip Metal 02: Live Kent 2014. Fuck yeah.

Today was back to work. Wasn't too bad as the show was actually pretty early (over at 11:30). I finally got that paperwork I needed submitted for admin privileges. So I thought I was about there, but then I talked to the guy later in the day and that just sent it to the next stage where it goes downstairs and THAT is what's supposed to be really slow. I thought that's what had been going on the whole time, but apparently I hadn't even started yet. Aye aye aye. Patrick started today. Though he's stationed in the bay next door. He's primarily gonna be working with front end stuff (while I'm middle or back end with the web services). Found out there were Muddy's cupcakes over at Cook so I went by during lunch. This one lemon one was so badass.

And I came home to what is making this post happen right now! My new keyboard! There was a bit of talk during the FastTrack class about mechanical keyboards so I got obsessed and found out this company called Unicomp is making the classic IBM Model-M keyboards that I grew up with. So yeah, I got one. So sweet. A ton of nostalgia bundled up with plain ol; awesomeness.
