Moving Forward
Jan. 7th, 2015 07:12 pmOkay, so Monday I got my new car stereo in the mail (the same one I've had...I like that 6 cd changer, what can I say?). Haven't had time to put it in (and rescue the cds out of my old one), hopefully tomorrow. I also got the word that I passed the test and moved on to the next phase for the programming job/training (after waiting around for hours sick with worry, they never actually got the final, best version of my code). A skype interview was set up for Tuesday. So Mary Beth and I got up real early that morning and did our grocery errands and such so I could get ready in time. I dressed up all nice in my suit (even pants, though I wore warm, cozy booties on my feet). There was something about it being a technical interview to make sure we understood the project, so I was poring over my code and trying to understand as much as possible, but the interview was lightweight. Really just telling me the details about it. It won't be an online class. There is a conflict with my work schedule as it's from 8 to 5 and I go in to work at 3. Talking to my manager about working out a temporary part-time schedule for me. I guess I'll see how that goes on Friday. If I make it through the class and get hired, then the starting salary is a bit lower than I was hoping for. Less than I made teaching, but still well over what I'm making now. I don't remember the details, but there's a possibility of a raise every six months (something about possibly up to 70-something after two years, though that's probably some maximum and I doubt that's what I should expect). And I'd have to stay there a full year to waive paying for the class (obviously expected for a free class to get hired somewhere). So those kind of details were all the interview was. Nothing about code at all. So it was easy, but a little stressful trying to figure my work situation out in that short amount of time. I'm hoping my manager can accommodate me. He wasn't there when I got there yesterday, but I got him on the phone. He seemed supportive of switching me to part-time, but he does need to talk to his boss about it. Okay, so today was a big day of running errands. First was I had to take a drug test. So got that done and went to some stores while we were out east (actually Mary Beth was needing to go out east anyhow). And while we were near where the class will be, I drove by to find it and then drove to work to test the time. We did this at 4 and it will actually be ending at 5 so there will probably be a difference, but it was exactly 15 minutes. So I'm thinking a 30 minute window should suffice. We'll see. What else? I can't think of anything else right now.
