Friday was my last day teaching. Although I guess "teaching" has to be taken loosely for anything this last week plus. It was a half day. We only went to seventh period. I had one student from my class show up. Ms. Windsor (the teacher whose room I'm in that period) had a girl come to her and she stayed there too. I talked to 'em a little bit and then one of the officers took 'em off to do something for 'em so most of the day I didn't even have the kids. I had gotten my EOC grades updated that night so I was able to get signed off on that little bit pretty much right away so I was instantly DONE. Very elating at first, and then pretty boring. There was pretty-much saying goodbye to a few teachers. Sarah gave out thank you cards to some. When she gave me mine I had a bit of a breakdown moment. A little bit after the kids were gone and I was considering leaving, Dr. Hunter called all EOC teachers to the library. So we got to end the year (and I got to end my teaching career) by being yelled at. Sarah was pissed about that kind of "senf off." For me, it just helped to cement this correct decision I've made.

Okay, I'm going to jump in time now. We're back to the night before, Thursday night. Jacques picked us up and we went to see Breadcrumb Trail, the Slint docmentary, at the Brooks. It was really awesome. Very enjoyable start to finish. I mean, it makes sense they were little kids with the earlier stuff, but it was extremely surreal seeing footage of them rehearsing the songs from Spiderland and they still look like these little kids. I mean, these little kids playing fucking "Nosferatu Man" what the fuck! Oh and a little further back in time, Wednesday morning I found my shipment of new shoes: Simpsons Chucks! I got a pair with Homer and a pair with Bart. They were last year's model and now they're on clearing-house sale. They were half the price so I naturally got both and felt I was not ripped off. Woohoo!

Okay, now we're back to the thread. Friday afternoon a bit after I got home we drove down to Arkansas for a family gathering at my uncle's. It was nice. There was a lot of family there. It very well may be the last time I'll see my Uncle Richard. He's had terminal lung cancer for a little while and he's down from Minnesota. A little after we got there we had to run an errand to pick some stuff up from the store. Had to give frickin' Wal-Mart money for the first time in many years. Well, coming back we stopped to get ice from one of those machines, but we didn't have any small bills so we went to the A*Z Mart, the convenicne store next door to make change. It was run by a couple of older Greek guys (I think). Anyway, they make chicken there and they made us sample the fried gizzards. Holy crap it hit me in the face with how goddamn good it was! I'll have to remember that, about the A*Z Mart in West Helena, AR. Later, while playing musical chairs with the cars in the driveways as someone was leaving, I had reparked. Their driveway is on a really steep hill. I get out of the car and land wrong on my left foot and twist my ankle. So I was hobbling around for a while. It still hurts some but not nearly as bad. I think it's almost healed by now.

Yesterday I went over to Jacques's to work on finishing the record. It's almost there! Got the songs compressed and eq'ed. Burned a disc and listened, made some notes. So I'll go back and make some adjustments but we're gettin' there!
