Friday night I got a delivery of the Paul Robeson Portaits of the Aritst dvd box (and I'm kinda pissed 'cuz I ordered a new copy and what I got is clearly very used). I also downloaded NES Remix on the Wii U. Okay and yesterday The Family Ghost got together for some recording. We recorded the base tracks for "Cameras" so now EVERY SONG is at least almost all recorded! The main part of every song is down. Very exciting. Also, this was the third attempt at recording "Cameras." But all those other failed attempts helped us to write the damn song. It's sounding good, finally. Ryan showed up late, but the rest of us had set up and then we got it recorded without too much effort. And we got Ryan's guitar recorded and my separate drum tracks recorded (we kept the method of recording the snare apart from the other drums with a very distant mic, also the toms recorded apart but close-up and dry...sounding really good, just this time I played the basic drum parts live with the other instruments to avoid those awful problems of past takes). Feels kinda like a milestone of some sort's been reached. We've been working on this damn record for a year now. Paul, Jacques, Mary Beth, and I went and had Bar-B-Que Shop after that and it was great. Jacques came back and we put down a little synth on a couple other tracks. Some Taurus on "Lost Year" (at the end, serving as kind've another layer of looping) and "Battle Chant" (following the bass line). This morning I finished reading The Silver Dove by Andrey Bely. It was good, not as good as Petersburg, but good. Just feels amazing to actually finish reading it 'cuz it takes so long to read shit nowadays. Anyhow.
Dec. 22nd, 2013
Dustin, Courtney, and Daphne came over this evening and hung out a little while. They brought a present: Munchkin Axe Cop. Brings to mind the fact that for some reason we don't have any version of Munchkin so that's cool. Also, I'd never seen Axe Cop so later in the evening I looked it up much to my delight. I had a horrible scare this evening too. I was putting shirts up in a drawer and I had the drawer out. So I go to push it back in and it doesn't go in all the way. Kinda happens frequently 'cuz the drawers are over-full. So I push on it twice. Then I hear an agry meow/growl from inside. It freaked me the fuck out. I take the drawer back out and, sure enough, Trudy comes running out. She seems fine, but it's been incredibly distressing knowing I almost crushed her and was just pushing her in that enclosed space. Jesus, anyway, getting ready for the trip. Mostly packed, I think.
