Warm Girls at the DeClyre Co-Op
Jun. 19th, 2012 11:04 amLast night Mary Beth and I went to see Warm Girls at the DeClyre Co-Op. We got there right when they started playing (I think, or maybe they had already started and had just played a few songs, but it seemed like they'd just started). They were good, a little stripped down and not very long set. Then some touring band played and while they were setting up they gave off this jam band vibe. Bongos and blues-based guitar noodling. But then they were really good. Bug Catcher is the band. I guess I'd best describe 'em as noise rock. Often on the punk side of things, but they often had hints of Chrome. I guess they often did jam but in a noise rock sort of way. They had cassettes for sale and since I knew I'd never listen to a cassette, I bought a t-shirt. After all that Mary Beth and I ended up talking to the guys in Warm Girls. We actually had a pretty lengthy conversation. Turns out the singer/guitar player is a teacher: 8th grade sped. So we talked a bit about teaching and music and stuff. They were really nice. He asked me if I had a band and right at that moment one of the girls that organizes the DeClyre Co-Op, I guess, was walking by and turned around and said they were looking for bands for a show or whatever at the end of July and asked if we'd play and what kind of music and all. I gave her my number so hopefully she'll text me some stuff. Also there was this dude who, when we first got there, said he remembered me from the night before as the guy wearing the e shirt. He was around while we were talking to the Warm Girls dudes and he was pretty nice too and we talked a little bit. Anyways, I guess in the past two days I've done more "networking"/socializing than in the past ten years or whatever. It was a good show and a good time, yo.
