Last night Mary Beth and I went to see Sebadoh at the Hit-One. Billy was working the door and he gave me his plus one so that was pretty sweet and unexpected. I probably haven't thanked him enough so I'll need to do that. As he was working the door I didn't get much chance to talk to him last night. Josh showed up too. The opening bands were not good. The first band was horrible. The Perfect Vessels, they're local. For one, their music was terrible, then mid-set they did something utterly baffling. A string broke on one of the guitars so they asked people in the audience to string their guitar for them. No one volunteered so they called one guy out. They gave him the guitar but he didn't know how to string one, so then they called on someone else who did. They then proceeded to keep playing with another guitar while that was being strung. If all this wasn't retarded enough, after it was brought back it sat there unused for many songs. It may have been eventually played, not sure 'cuz we went outside after a while. The next band was from out of town. Mazes I think? They weren't horrible, but not what I'd call good either; however, I did think their last song was pretty good. Overall they were just kinda generic 90s throwback indie pop. Sebadoh was pretty good. Much better than when I saw 'em a few years ago with just Jason and Lou. Having a drummer actually helped things a lot. They played the two songs I most wanted to hear ("Brand New Love" and "The Freed Pig"). I pretty much knew they'd play the former and [not surprised but something close to that] when they played the latter. The show was pretty late. Got a shirt. Now I need to catch up on way too much work.
