some major changes happening at work...major major...remember me saying they did some crap to get rid of the fraud last week? well, it's effective, it's what the company who bought us had been using as they actually make an effort to really get rid of it instead of doing as little as possible to keep making money off it as did our previous employer...well, as fraud was an ENORMOUS hunk of our call volume this change for the better is having its backlash...as in downsizing...our center is going to be state only and i think ip is being moved to the manila (phillipines) center...they estimate 40 to 60 relay operators will be kept on here...out of close to 250...by seniority...as i'm around number 20 or so in seniority this shouldn't affect me...i mean, staying and taking only state calls is even a dream...unfortunately, Mary Beth probably won't make the seniority cut (she estimates she's in the 70's) so that sucks...the people being laid off get 60 days notice and then 6 weeks severance pay so it's not horrific, but still...and the layoffs will occur in stages or whatever, but no one knows how many they'll do at a time...if Mary Beth's laid off she'd be among the last group i assume...well, anyway...on a surprise that's happy, i came home to some valentine's gifts in the mail from Mary Beth which i wasn't expecting: Puzzle Quest for the DS and 100 Love Sonnets by Pablo Neruda (and it's bilingual!) well, Horace is ramming his head into my leg so i'll go now...
