ateolf: (The Metamorphosis)
okay, this'll probably be a long one...thursday i ended up working overtime til 10:30...i'm really hating work right now...i think i'm leaning towards looking for a new job soon...i had my sick day on friday so it was awesome not working...but i went to the rheumatologist...didn't even have the notion that i should be doing this through worker's comp until the last minute and then i get there thinking it's a $20 copay but since it's a specialist it's stinkin' $30...and then they tell me i don't have any horrible degenerative crippling diseases so don't worry...it was pretty silly and kind of felt like a waste, but since another main objective was to get the day off with a sick day since i had court i guess it was toally worth it in that respect...so i made it downtown way early with more than an hour to spare so i decided to walk the few blocks over to Downtown Books...on the way i run into no other than former roommate Tim...he seemed to think it was amusing and said something like "how's it goin', Robert?" i didn't say anything, just continued my way to the bookstore...the bookstore that is now closed for good...the coffee/cigar place or whatever in whose basement it was in is still there, but the bookstore is gone...that was pretty sad...so i went back to the courthouse and was super-early...so i was right in the front of the line and waited well over an hour...but when court actually started i was in there for a maximum of two minutes...and of course since the charge was so paltry it was dismissed at no charge to myself...so as usual, just a waste of time (not my going being a waste, but the fact that i had to go...) then later Mary Beth and i had some fino's and then watched this movie Nora (about James Joyce and his wife Nora's relationship...starring Ewan McGregor as James Joyce...it was pretty bad...i mean, not aggressively bad, just boring and somewhat pointless and poorly executed...just taking a potentially good subject and making it uninteresting and medicore...) then yesterday we'd heard that the Book Bank on Poplar (across from the main library) is going out of business...i worded that poorly, we found out it is going out of business the day before and we went yesterday...i'd only been there once before and didn't like it, but now they're selling all their used books for $1! here's my intake: Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood, A Bend in the River by V.S. Naipaul, The Human Stain by Philip Roth, Sixteen Satires by Juvenal, Collected Fictions by Jorge Luis Borges, The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje, The Berlin Stories by Christopher Isherwood, My Uncle Napoleon by Iraj Pezeshkzad, Islands in the Stream by Ernest Hemingway, In the Beginning. . . Was the Command Line by Neal Stephenson, and Poesía Española II: Posromanticismo...later we had massive fajitas at Los Compadres...and last night we hung out at Jacques and Amber's with Jason and watched Rage and Honor (i think that's the title) and then Cobra! oddly having a sort of Brian Thompson marathon...and i guess that about brings myself up to date...oh whoops, i forgot to mention the mail i got yesterday; Herbie Hancock: Mwandishi: the Complete Warner Bros. Recordings and Ike Yard: 1980-82 Collected...
