so yesterday Jacques, Amber, and i went to saint louis to see The Wedding Present...it was a pretty fun trip...blew money i don't really have to blow but that's okay...the drive up was the usual fun road trip inanity...we found a motel then went out to the city to vintage vinyl...i got me:
Black Dice: Miles of Smiles
Wolf Eyes: Fuck Pete Larsen
Gang of Four: Entertainment! (oop infinite zero release that has one more bonus track that the current release does not have...)
Sun Ra: Heliocentric Worlds Vol. 3: the Lost Tapes
i also got a cool Fall shirt that's red and says Live at the Witch Trials and there's a picture of the band playing...
and Sun Ra: a Joyful Noise dvd
right after that walking down the street i saw Andy from The Potomac Accord and i thought "oh i'd better say hi or something" but then he walked past us and i didn't say anything...oh well...we ate at this japanese place and had the worst service ever...fun...the show itself was at blueberry hill, chuck berry's restaurant...as crappy as the actual place is, the room where the show was (the duck room) was actually kind of cool...it was downstairs in the basement and kind of small...the opening band was The Organ and they were quite good..much akin to New Order's pop, not-so-synth/dance oriented stuff...The Wedding Present put on a good show...i don't really have much of their stuff and there was only one song i recognized ("My Favorite Dress") but it was a good show...the audience was pretty damn annoying though...i hit the merch table and got:
The Wedding Present: Sea Monsters
a neat blue t-shirt that just says The Wedding Present
a set of The Wedding Present postcards...kind of frivilous but they do look really cool...
The Organ: Grab That Gun
back to the motel for a second night of not very good sleep so today i was pretty out of it...we almost went straight back but Amber found a place in the phone book called the record exchange so we got directions and found it...well, first, we ate at a jack in the box and it was a comical experience...first 'cuz even though i got my first straight away, the others took a long time to get their order...then this old couple came in and they had this extremely long semi-argument discussion about whether the wife was eating a sandwhich with sourdough bread or not...she said no but the husband was very insistent on yes...also a few sidetrack discussions about how sourdough can be both a bun or sliced bread...probably nto very exciting to read, but it was very funny to hear...at one point one of the employees was brought into the discussion...Amber made the observation that it was very Seinfeldish or something...then to the record exchange...it was this huge place in an old library...they just dealt in used stuff...they didn't have a whole lot that was too interesting, however...i ended up getting:
Mike Watt: The Secondman's Middle Stand
Medicine: Shot Forth Self Living
John Coltrane: The Complete 1961 Village Vanguard Recordings (four disc box set)
then back on the road home...there was some craziness getting out of saint louis...the complicated interstate system...we ended up across the river in east saint louis...while turning around to go back we saw a really old, ugly hooker workin' it outside a lumber yard...totally awesome...but we made it back...i don't think there's anything else too specific to share...if i think of something i guess i'll mention it later or something...
