so the vague tour dates/tentative release date for the new Sonic Youth record (Murray Street) have been posted to www.sonicyouth.com...and i must say i'm a bit perturbed...first we'll start w/ the tour (however vague it is): mid-june - mid-july: Europe...august: north america...maybe a date or two in japan...why are they coming here AFTER europe? it's not a big issue, but still...and only one month here? bollocks! hopefully i'll still be able to do my planned hippie-stalker deal of following 'em around for a week...i guess i'd better get crackin' on makin' those hackie sacks and crack pipes to sell in the venue parking lots...but my main "beef" is in the tentative release schedule:
june 5: japan
june 11: europe
july 2: usa
!?!?!?
first of all, they were originally just giving june 4 as a release date, and i was thinking that was too far in the future...but now this!? almost a month after that...and month after japan and close to that for europe!?!?!? why the fuck do they have to wait that long!? it's obviously ready if it'll already be out in japan and europe...can i wait that long!? do i fucking import it from japan!? gah! this is purely evil...i heard all the songs at ATP and it's fucking great stuff...even though there's only 7 songs on the album...though all but like "Plastic Sun" are pretty damned long...(there might be one that's only 4-something min...i'm not sure...) and i saw what i believe is the cover art on their website and it's pretty rad...and really, if it's all ready anyway, why the fuck do they even have to wait 'til june (much less JULY) to release it? couldn't those bastards put it out in a week or two or whatever...(i believe it's been all ready for a few weeks...) stupid record label crap...oh well, i guess i'll just sit and wait like the dork i am...hopefully they won't take too long to release the reissues (and SYR 6) too...

yes that is crappy.

i listened to an mp3 of plastic sun today- i'm sorry, that shit is BAD. however, i remember quite liking the track on this years ATP cd.

Plastic Sun is fucking great...the ATP cd song is great too, that's not on the album though...which is cool, like, it'd be moderately sucky to get this song on a cd then have the album w/ it on it come out a few months later...

i've only heard the one song on the new record from that jane comp (i don't even know if it's the one you're talking about), and i was pretty underwhelmed by it. then again, though, i don't think they've gotten any better since daydream nation probably.

"Plastic Sun" is the one on the comp...and while it's not much like the other stuff on the album, it's fucking great...and while no one's done anything better since Daydream Nation (or before, as it's obviously the best album ever), SY have still done some great stuff since then...

yeah, daydream nation is the best album ever. riiight...

i'm not even going to go into the whole issue of MUSIC vs. WORDS, Mr. Babypants...

that's not the issue at all. it's music + words in this case. i just couldn't help but quote.

if i were going on lyrics alone, i'd throw out a lot of my records.

about "shake dog shake":

Never thought there was a Cure song so extreme and on the edge that even Sonic Youth paid indirect tribute to it in one of their own songs?

what the fuck are they talking about? what sy song? any idea? it's bothering mr...

d'oh!

shit...mission: go through my SY cds and try to figure out which song remotely resembles "Shake Dog Shake"...even though i never saw that song as really "extreme and on the edge"...maybe it's true that SY was intentionally paying tribute to it, but then again, this is AMG that said it...still i must figure it out...not the best place to while i'm in a computer lab on campus and very tired...

i always thought "shake dog shake" sounded like what the cult would sound like if they weren't completely horrible crap.

i've seen someone say "Starpower" is a complete rip-off of "Helen Forsdale," which i can see elements of (i mean, who in their right mind wouldn't be influenced by Mars, by crikey!) but i'd say it's a far cry from a rip-off...
