During lunch I finished reading Gertrude and Claudius by John Updike. It was quite. I liked the writing and the perspective (I went in thinking it would be like a contradiction of what happens in Hamlet, but it's more of a prequel with broader context and perspective, especially for Gertrude, that still supports the actual events of the play). It did at times get a little weighed down by going in a bit much with the detail and minutiae of the period specifics, especially in regard to clothing (okay, John, we get it, you did some research, fine!), but that's a minor quibble. After my day-before-a-holiday work, Mary Beth and I went over to the park and walked around the Old Forest just a little bit and then the pond (we didn't have a ton of time as it does get dark so early). Our New Year's Eve activity was watching All the Beauty and the Bloodshed (the Nan Goldin documentary we saw thanks to Indie Memphis (RIP :(...) a few years ago). We stayed up for the changing of the year. Slept in a good bit this morning. Alright, now here it goes.
