In the afternoon I went up to Crosstown to meet up with Delara and discuss the financials of the festival and finally see how it did. It was very comparable to the last one (which is good...that's what I felt during it but given that it's over two days and a large span of hours both days, it's hard to gauge how many people are actually there total as not everyone is there at once ever and are there same people who were there earlier the same or different than the ones there later, etc.). Overall we made a little more money, though ticket prices had gone up a little so it might mean ticket numbers were down a little bit (though probably not much or significantly). The amount of guarantees for traveling artists is what went up the most (given inflation on gas prices and all). But overall I'm pretty happy with how it went and Delara seemed into it all.

In the evening Mary Beth and I went out to try Sen Trang (REALLY hard to remember the new name and not just call it Pho Binh...I had to look up that "new" name (I mean, it's been over a year now) and I still just keep calling it Pho Binh). I don't think we'd actually been since the changeover (it's all the same stuff and menu and recipes, just new owners and a new name). Food's still just as good. Got all the staples: lemongrass tofu, chicken wings, and eggrolls. We're all like, why the fuck haven't we come back here in so long!? (Oh damn! In my last post I forgot to mention how we went out to Pho Saigon on one of the nights earlier this week. Very big Vietnamese kick lately I guess.)

Then later I went up to B-Side for a show: Quintron and Aaron Dilloway. I arrive and the parking lot is just packed and people are streaming from all over. Now, I figure this would be a pretty big crowd for B-Side but nothing near like this. Then I get a look at the suburb-types that are all converging on the building and realize that for sure this is for something at Minglewood (they're in the same building, Minglewood being the big concert venue and B-Side a small club/bar). Turns out to be some country (I think) singer who I've never heard of and whose name I already forgot. Anyway, saw a bunch of friends at the show in B-Side. The music was good. I thought it was weird when Quintron played first (as he's the more popular of the two) but he had a good set. He had this one song with the same "sample" as the last song on Unwound's last album (that old jazz thing). Anyway, so then I'm curious about it and it turns out it's actually one of the tapes on the early iteration of the Mellotron so that's where it comes from and that explains some things! There was a pretty good sized crowd during Quintron's set. Then Aaron Dilloway came on right after. There was a big shift and all of the nerdy dudes came up to the front as the previous crowd dispersed (yes, that includes me, I was sitting for Quintron's set, which I enjoyed, but when Aaron came on I knew I had to get up closer). So yeah, I hadn't heard much of his post-Wolf Eyes work but...still sounds like someone who was in Wolf Eyes! Lots of noisy, spacey tape loop kinda stuff. That subdued industrial noise of Throbbing Gristle, etc. And the loop he started off with sounded a lot like the rhythm part of "Burn Your Down Down". It was a really good set. When it was over and I turned back around, the crowd was much thinner. But those who stayed were super into it. I got a shirt from him afterwards. It doesn't mention his name or anything, it just says "shatter all organized activities" and "eat the rich" (with a picture of some guy in a weird mask on it). Okay, that's about it for now.
