On and On

I took the day off yesterday because of the meeting with Crosstown about Memphis Concrète next year. So I went and met up with Stacy and Delara and it went well! We have dates on the calendar, tentative now but should be firming up soon. All in all it seems to be heading in a good direction. After that, Mary Beth and I made a grocery run at Kroger for those once-every-few-months things. Then in the evening we went (back for me) to Crosstown for a movie: Made in England: the Films of Powell and Pressburger. It was okay. There was a lot that was good and interesting about it, but the format was kind of weird. It mostly consisted of Martin Scorsese talking (which in and of itself is fine), but it pretty much went through each movie and gave a somewhat detailed plot synopsis. There would be other more interesting things mixed in, but a weirdly large amount of it was just recapping what happens in the movies. Also, there was a bit much on Scorsese's own movies. I mean, it didn't happen often, but when it did it would linger on his movies just a bit long and it kinda takes you out of the subject. And I totally don't think it's a bad idea for him to have talked about their influence on his own movies and can see the strength in that, it's just that when it went there (again, which wasn't often in the documentary) it just went a bit too deep and for too long on his own stuff. I hadn't seen too many of their movies, but it does make me want to watch some more of them, so mission accomplished! Oh yeah, and when the movie first started there was an issue with the audio, like the music in the open credits had sound but then there was no sound for anything else. Then they had to go and fix it and start it over (it had only made it a few minutes in, but time does stretch longer when something's going wrong!). Okay, that's about it!
