Upstairs in the Daylight
Jul. 29th, 2024 07:59 amIn the evening Mary Beth and I went to an early show. It was a very young show as half of the performers were in high school! First it was Fresh Fruit Radio and it's one of the kids in Above Jupiter and his uncle playing together. They were ambient and butting up against things I like but a little on the hippie drum circle side of things. Next it was My Skin Is Wax and he had kind of an industrial pop thing going on. And then Cel Shade played last. Oh yeah, and the show was upstairs at the Hi Tone for once so I got the view of Cel Shade playing in front of the Crosstown Concourse lit up at night which was sweet (it was still daylight when the first two acts were playing). Oh, and there was a frozen dinner mishap right on the way out the door where the plastic seal had gotten open just a little bit and so the food got a bit of a weird kind of freezer burn thing. I started to try to eat it after heating it up but parts of it were hard and weird and it ended up being inedible. So while at the Hi Tone I tried their pizza and it wasn't bad! Couple things I meant to mention from the post about the last show. B-Side was super crowded with very drunk people who were a bit on the obnoxious side! Also, musicians who play there all the time always go on about how good the sound is there, but I never find it to be particularly good from the audience. I mean, it's never bad but doesn't stand out against the venues of comparable size (maybe a little less good? I dunno, it's probably just more or less the same, I guess, sometimes mics are a little muddy, which is fine, live sound is live sound and I'd only expect something more if people are going on about how good the sound is, hah). I feel that there was something else I'd wanted to say about that night and forgotten but then remembered later but now I seem to have forgotten again... Ah well!
