I squealed because my package with the box set The Shadow Ring: 1992-2002 arrived earlier than expected! I wasn't familiar with them, but when the box set was announced by Blank Forms, who I'd gotten a Maryanne Amacher cd from, I was intrigued and then listened to like the first thirty seconds or so of the first song of their first album and I was blown away so hard that I was just like, I have to get this and I don't even want to listen to any more until I've gotten it, just want to save it all for poring through the box set! So now here we are! (Well, "I am.") Oh, and aside from the cd box set, the "booklet" that comes with it is a separate giant-ass full-on coffee table book. Huge and heavy and lots of fancy pictures. I squeezed in just a little bit of time earlier on in the day to practice for the show. Mostly I just adjusted some mixing in the pedals the thumb piano was running through to make the different notes sound a little more distinct, but I was happy with that development. I got up to the Lamplighter a little early to set up as I was playing first. I played my set and I think it went pretty well. Not a lot of people were there yet as I was on first but that's okay. I went and broke down my stuff (pretty quick, I was impressed with myself a little bit, especially given the big rack box with the vocoder and Boss delays and some Moogerfoogers is a little more complicated than if I'd just had two modular cases, but taking down is easier and quicker than setting up, I guess). Drove my gear back home to free up the room and came back. Missed Ren Almighty's set in the process so was a little bummed about that. But then I stuck around for the rest of Purg Fest and saw: Gooetones (had seen before as solo guitar but this time it was a full band, with Russ on drums too, and they closed with a cover of "Nervous Breakdown"), Shea Harris, Pity Invite, Suroor, and Etta Havoc. Good night and enjoyed seeing everyone. Also had the Lamp's loaded fries and they were delicious. Came home and quickly worked a little on the "cover" art for the recording of the show (for when it's actually ready and up on bandcamp) and since the reading is from Sphinx I thought I'd do something invoking the book's cover, but then I kinda just recreated the geometric design. I'll see if I can change it up just a little bit. Still not done yet. I dunno.
