To All Trains
May. 24th, 2024 07:57 amIt came in the mail!: Shellac: To All Trains! I know I already told the story of my purchasing it, but very happy to have found it without having to wait for a repress (and while vinyl repress pre-orders are up, they are not for cds...yet? I'm sure it'll be repressed at some point, they'd probably already expected the vinyl to have to be repressed but not the cds, maybe?). Anyway, thankful to Indy CD & Vinyl in Indianapolis who sold this for a normal price and didn't try to exploit Steve's death with price gouging (like literally every other seller with peddling this right now). And thanks to my luck for actually seeing it in time and nabbing it (in time even to actually receive it just under a week after the release date)! Later in the evening Mary Beth went down to the Square to watch the outdoor screening of The Little Mermaid. We'd brought drinks and snacks but noticed the bathroom is out of order so I skipped the eating/drinking. So we watched it (the original 1989 one) and then right after they showed the new remake from last year. We stayed to watch the beginning to see what it was like. We only saw the first few minutes, maybe ten minutes, and while they shift around the details a little, it seems like it's pretty much the same, as even though they shift some things around, the basic shape is there, even down to other details. Some of the dialog is exactly the same, even the non-essential stuff. And it has that modern rococo cgi thing of the screen being filled with so much stuff coming at you really fast where I guess it's supposed to be dazzling but it just kinda comes off pointlessly showoffy. (I know the big controversy is supposed to be the fact that Ariel is black, but jesus, I know people are awful, blatant racists, and I know my saying that it doesn't matter the slightest fuck that a mermaid in a movie is not white and it should be so obvious that it's pointless and even embarrassing to say like I was actually making some kind of point, but here we are!...post-racial America (<- that's the sarcastic part).) Okay, I'll shut up now.
