ateolf: (the goat...BITCH!)

There was a show last night. It had a long and sordid and wacky history, but it went and it was good. This was the show that started off as one booked for a touring band and then it was a big headache and then they cancelled their tour. I kept it as a show for locals and went and grabbed more people to play and fill it out nice and good. So then to top it all off, it just happened that two of the four artists playing had their birthday yesterday. I feel bad that I'm rusty with my Probability because I really want to figure out what the odds of that happening are. Anyway, because of the birthday shenanigans, Mary Beth and I thought it would be fun to make sort of a goofy birthday celebration out of it. I had picked up party hats at the dollar store the other day. In the afternoon yesterday, I went and picked up a cake from the grocery store and took it back home and badly scrawled in gel icing "Bleep Bloop" atop it. Then in addition to the other goodies that Mary Beth provided (baking cooking in addition to other things), it was a festive spread ready for the thing. Before I left, I got some cds in the mail: Heejin Jang: Me and the Glassbirds and Marc Junker: Prepared Piano 1.0 (the latter was a freebie thrown in with the other that I had ordered, don't know anything about it but I like the sound of it!). I got up to the Hi Tone and set up the party table. I almost forgot about the party hats but right before the show started I remembered. Other people wore them too. A lot of 'em were half-fallen apart because of dollar store cheapness but the string just kind of wrapped around a tab so I fixed a few up. First up was Vincent Manard and he did electric piano, somewhat jazzy songs that ran together in one long piece. Next it was Towering Flesh and his set was nice and noisy. They hid behind a big amp on the floor and had some guitar and lots of pedals and noise making things. They were wearing a pink Pig Destroyer shirt as well as a pink skimask with pig ears. Next was CEL SHADE and her set was awesome. Started out ambient before going into idm glitchiness. Last was Dinosauria and his set was good as always. He ended by playing the Charlie Brown Christmas song. I didn't even recognize it at first (I guess on guitar it threw me off), I was just like, ooh these are some nice jazz chords he's ending the set with. Then he was talking about it afterwards and I was like, OOOH YEAH! It was a pretty good turnout for a Monday night too. Even made enough to give everyone that played a little something. That's always nice. At one point I was getting a table out from the back for CEL SHADE and Trash Cat ran behind me through the back door and went up the stairs, we were trying to get her to come back down but she just ran to the upstairs. Um, I think that's all I can remember. My cold had felt like it'd gone away by yesterday. But right after the show it felt like it's coming back maybe. Or did I pick something up there? Maybe it's just the bar atmosphere on my throat? Hopefully it all disappears today.
