More Indie Memphis
Oct. 27th, 2023 08:11 amMore Indie Memphis last night! Saw some more really great movies. First I saw Evil Does Not Exist. It's about some people in a rural community where a corporation is planning on putting a glamping site in the area. So there's some environmental stuff, but... Well, like I thought it would be, it was slow and meditative. But there was more humor than I was expecting (a very dry humor). And then also stuff happens that I really wasn't expecting (I mean, there's something foreshadowed that you kind of are expecting, but then it gets compounded with other stuff). It was a pretty great movie! After that I met up with Mary Beth and we saw Banel & Adama. That was also really great. It's from Senegal and, kind of hard to describe. I mean, it is centered on something of a love story in a rural village. I'm hesitant to use the phrase "magical realism" (I mean, it kind of is, but the "magical" part is more low key), but it does have a very weird atmosphere. It had looked like it would be good, but it was quite different from what I expected and ended up being really great (as I already said). Anyway, it was a good night of movies. Now for some more!
