Re-La

I started off yesterday by finishing reading The Tiger Flu by Larissa Lai and it was good. Then I went back up to Shangri-La. I'll divide this part into three sections based on three themes of acquisition (I didn't mean for that to sound so academic, but I'll roll with it). The first is a couple of cds I wasn't sure about when I was at Shangri-La the day before, but kinda checked them out later and then was like sure, I could pick those up: Ui: Lifelike and Scientific American: Strong for the Future. The next group is several that I saw when there previously and suspected they might or were probably on my list of scratched cds that need replacement so I made a note and checked my list after I got home (I guess I should have that accessible online or something for the next time I'm randomly out and spot something) and sure enough, all three were on the list, so these cds are the reason I returned to Shangri-La, to buy for a second time: Labradford: E Luxo So, Oval: Process, and The New Year: Newness Ends. The next group of cds is the bulk of it all. So the one shelf with jazz and soundtracks and classical and hip-hop has a bunch of stuff on the floor in front of it now (it's already relegated to a bit of a corner) and it's kind of hard to lean over and see everything on the shelf. And when I was there on Saturday, we had the Youth Festival to go to and I didn't have a whole ton of time to look so I kinda glanced in its direction but didn't pay much attention. So yesterday, I figured I'd try to lean in for a closer look. And yeah, I had to pull like half the things off the shelf to even see what they were, but then as I was looking closer, I ended up finding a whole bunch of stuff: Ornette Coleman: Tomorrow Is the Question!, Miles Davis: 'Round about Midnight, Charles Mingus: The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady, Thelonious Monk: Solo Monk, Naked City: Torture Garden, Philip Glass: Symphony No. 5 Requiem, Bardo, Nirmanakaya, and Peter Gabriel: Passion: Music from The Last Temptation of Christ. Okay, so after all this haul, I went over to Jacques's place and hung out for a little bit. I had a dumb little souvenir from our trip to give him as well as a few cd extras that had piled up. And he had one for me as well: v/a: A Homage to Neu!. He said he'd replaced it 'cuz it was skipping for him on one track. So with that in mind, later in the night I tried ripping it to see what would happen and I encountered no errors so hopefully it worked and it plays fine! Or at least my rip plays fine even if the disc doesn't always, but haven't listened to it through yet. In the evening Mary Beth and I encountered something disconcerting. The Little Italy in Midtown was sold and had its name changed and all its stuff online looks like some gentrified bullshit! So Mary Beth panicked and we ordered some pizza from the Little Italy Downtown. We took it back home and ate it while watching Women without Men, which was really good. Now I'm still full from all that pizza here in the next morning.
