Had a pretty awesome day yesterday. Lot of fun doing a few different things! First, Mary Beth and I went up to the Quantum Antique Gallery where I made a very special cd find. Okay, I have to give a little background on this first. So back on the fourth of July, Goner had an online sale. And I was browsing the list of stuff that had a super big discount and saw one cd that I was super excited about (this Reinhold Weber album that I didn't know anything about beforehand but is some nice early electronic and Creel Pone had put it out at some point too, though this was a legit version and not Creel Pone). Well, I order it and some others to get the discount but then when I went to pick them up, they couldn't find almost any of them and that part was refunded. Ah well. But then later I had a thought. So last year I learned that Goner has a booth in this antique mall for their extra stuff that they don't have room for in their store, kind of a big clearance bin. I'd been of the thought I should check that out as maybe that's where some of their cds ended up as they've definitely deemphasized them in the store itself. But then after the order fiasco (yes "fiasco" is hyperbolic but I can't think of a more accurate word right now), I thought maybe it was still showing in stock and they couldn't find it was because it had gotten put in their antique mall booth. It was a hunch anyway. Well, so I finally got around to going and testing my theory yesterday afternoon. Walked around looking at other booths and any cds I could find (usual kind of junk there you'd expect) and the Goner booth was about the last one I came across. Then I went looking through the boxes of cds, better than what you'd find in the other booths but I still didn't find anything after searching through the boxes. Oh well, but then I'm about to leave and I take one more look at this box that was behind the cds that had cassettes on top so I'd thought it was all cassettes, but then I saw cds underneath the cassettes! So I dug through that and once again, almost the very last cd I looked at...I found the one I'd been looking for! I also found a couple more in that box worth picking up. Here's my whole haul: Sci Fi Industries: Architectural Development, Ennio MOrricone: Once upon a Time in the West soundtrack, and Reinhold Weber: Elektronische Musik. Given the whole story (which, I know is probably much more boring to actually read), it was a very exciting find for me and I felt quite accomplished with my cd sleuthing skills. Mary Beth also found some crystal glassware for cheap so we both had a pretty productive haul.

That finished just in time for what was billed as my half-assed birthday thing that ended up being a lot of fun. I'd messaged a few friends that I'd be up at Nerd Alert at a certain time and that it wouldn't be any kind of formal thing but come hang out it you want to. Several came up and it was nice to see some folks and hang out! I hadn't been in Nerd Alert before, had kept meaning to but never got around to it. It's a small space but it's tightly packed with a very nice selection of old arcade cabinets. Here are the highlights of the ones I was most into and playing a lot: Q*bert, Burger Time, Robotron, Gyruss, Dig Dug, Crystal Castles, Donkey Kong 3, Galaxian (they had Galaga too but I kept doing really really badly at it), Joust, and some more good ones that I just didn't play so much because I did horribly at them. When Dustin got there he wanted to play me in Street Fighter 2 and I let him know I'm terrible at fighting games but then we played and I ended up beating him anyway. We'd all play a while, then migrate to the tables and take a break, then play some more, etc. I'd initially had a plan of renting the place and ended up ditching that idea (think I posted about this earlier) because the price listed online was out-of-date and it ended up being a bit more expensive when I called and then the whole packaged seemed more geared to kids birthday party with balloons and such. Also, I would have invited more people if I'd done that and I don't think there'd've been room at those tables. Anyway, it was a much better plan to just come up and hang out. Also, the way Nerd Alert works is that you just pay $10 for unlimited play so that's a pretty good setup. After everyone dispersed and the arcade fun was over, Jacques and I went and grabbed dinner at Sam's Deli. Hadn't been there in forever and had that delicious Hawaiian muffuletta again. Anyway, fun day with more than one thing I thought would be small and low key and ended up being super-fun.
