Yesterday I got this little cd tower delivered, it's narrow but relatively tall and fits almost perfectly in the space next to one of my main giganormous towers. So I assembled it and it was the absolute most infuriatingly pain-in-the-ass piece of cheap shelving I've ever put together. So to start, the instructions have all the closeup pictures of all the little parts you're putting together and explicitly calls them out...except for the dowels. So I'm going through and have the whole basic structure screwed and nailed together and it's starting to get to what feel like the closing steps and I feel something was missing. There were extra holes that weren't filled and I figured it'd be something to come back to in a later step and it didn't feel the sturdiest. Then I figure out that just these little lines in the drawing were implying the dowels. So then I had to take it all apart again and redo it with the dowels this time. Then you get to the part where you flip it over and nail in the back. The boards are narrower and there's less space to hit the nail through (with no guides) and so that was difficult enough (with nails often not quite going through where they're supposed to and making little bumps or worse in the cheap plywood), but then the most frustrating thing of all happened. So given the base sticks out a bit, when it's flipped over there this triangular gap and hammering nails in puts extra stress on the structure. So yeah, I'm hammering in and the bottom section just keeps falling apart. The nails just came out of the cheap plywood (I'm sure my unscrewing and rescrewing them in didn't help) so it's not even attached at all. I was screaming and cursing more than I can ever remember. I finally just said fuck it and let the parts just sit atop each other and I reinforced it with duct tape. Also the whole back panel is misaligned a bit, but fuck it. It was just so fucking infuriating. At least it's up and holding my excess cds with some room to spare too.
Later in the evening Mary Beth and I made an excursion out to Lucchesi's to pick up some pasta and cake for some days that are upcoming.
