I Conquer

I had a major accomplishment yesterday and finally finished reading Women and Men by Joseph McElroy! This is now the longest book I've read in a single volume (of course, In Search of Lost Time takes the cake, but that was over multiple volumes and by some accounts could be considered multiple books). But anyway, I'd been reading this sucker for a good chunk of time. Thoughts? Well, It's fucking long. There are some very long books I've read that I wouldn't want them a word shorter. This, this was too long. There are some good things it's got going in it. It also has some issues. Overall it kinda falls somewhere between okay and pretty good. I couldn't in good conscience recommend it to anyone else to read (unless they're the type of person like me wanting to read up as many monstrous postmodern tomes as possible, and even so then you'd want to make it through a whole bunch of others before getting round to this one). I got to eat my Interstate leftovers for dinner last night so the joy was prolonged. Mary Beth and I went for a walk around the neighborhood later in the evening. It was hot but we saw lots of cats. It's good that this show was pushed back a week as I'm still coughing this morning. I forgot to mention before, I think, that on Mary Beth's birthday we did a little clay sculpting. I made a clay figure of her. And my skills are very poor, but I think I actually did a good job on the hair (for me).
