Double Shows

I did another attempt at hopping between two shows last night. First I went up to B-Side for a free jazz show ("free" as in the proper definition, not that it didn't cost money). It started with Deepstaria Enigmatica which has that Chad Fowler guy that Josh used to work with and Alex Greene filled in for their guitarist (on keyboards) who was sick. Oh and it appears that their bass player Misterioso Africano played guitar on a couple Public Enemy albums in the aughts, that's cool! Anyway, yeah they were really good. Fusion-y with spacey freak-outs and such. Next was Wrest which has Jack Wright in it and they were fucking phenomenal. It was saxophone, upright bass, and percussion (lots of bowing and scraping, I think) and they set up on the floor in front of the stage and didn't mic or plug in anything, all acoustic. It was very moving and powerful and it was hard to pull myself away to make it to the other show, but I caught a very good hunk of it, hopefully the majority depending on how long they played. But I went back and picked up Mary Beth and we went up to a show at the Lamplighter. We caught just the end of General Labor's set and they were super-good. Next it was Composer 4 and he was good. Then last was Optic Sink and they were, of course, also very good. They had a couple songs with guitar, and one was a cover, I think The Raincoats, but I'm not sure which song and I need to check that. Anyway, good show. Lots of people there too. I got up this morning and went and took my mom to dialysis so I'll be going back to pick her up in a little bit.
