Mary Beth and I did the Thanksgiving trip up to Rochester to spend with her family. We left Tuesday afternoon. It was a pretty smooth flight up. Everything ran on time. Our gates in Atlanta were pretty much right across from each other. The only hitch was our seats got reassigned for the flight to Rochester. Didn't seem to be any reason for this but everyone was getting their seats reassigned so that's fun. We were moved from sitting next to each other (I was sitting behind her so we were kinda sorta close, kinda sorta). We got into Rochester at around 11 and got a taxi to the house we were staying at, right by Lake Ontario. There was only one house between us and the lake and (in the morning with daylight and all that) you could see the lake from the windows.

Wednesday morning we woke up and went down to the lake (that was our daily morning ritual). There was a little snow on the ground (there was snow on the ground when we arrived, a little, in shady spots, but novel for us coming from Memphis...though still Memphis-levels of snow (not this time of year though)). There was a little park that led down to the beach just like two houses down from us. We walked over to Mary Beth's parents' house. It was only about two miles away. We hung out a bit. Then we borrowed the car and picked up some garbage plates from Nick Tahou's. We took them out to the lake, the big park/beach at Charlotte Pier and ate them there (same ritual we had last time we were there, though that time we'd tried different garbage plates...Nick Tahou's are the best though). And not a whole lot else after that, just hanging out with Mary Beth's parents. We had dinner over there.

Thursday morning it was back to the beach and this time Mary Beth took off her shoes and waded in the water (later when we told the others about this, they'd balk in disbelief...it's November in Rochester, it's cold water!, but Mary Beth loves cold bodies of water!). We'd had the car to drive back to "our place" so we were able to drive back over this time. We did go for a walk around the neighborhood. During the afternoon while waiting for guests to arrive, I finished reading The Female Man by Joanna Russ and it was really good. Then guests were over for Thanksgiving dinner. Mary Beth's parents' friends the Connors. Good food was had and I ate reservedly (to save room for dessert) and then after everything was done I had a few extra snacky bites and that's what kinda did me in! Later that night, back at "home" we tried our hand at watching some of the television and they had Netflix set up (we haven't had any subscriptions in forever) and we were finally about to watch the last season of Schitt's Creek, not all that night but we started in on it.

Friday is the next day and it started as usual at the beach. It was snowing, though very lightly and nothing was sticking (it'd start to stick a little by nighttime but only ever amounted to a light dusting). The waves were very choppy so she didn't dip in this time, but it was fun watching the driftwood tumble around. We went and picked up some Pontillo's pizza to take back to the place. It was nice 'cuz they gave me a free two liter of Pepsi so I had something to drink! We ate it watching just a little more Schitt's Creek. Back at her parents' it was a pretty easy day. In the evening Mary Beth and her mom went to this sale/swap thing Jeanine was involved in. We had some Zweigle's white (and red, but white are the best) hots for dinner. Then later Mary Beth and I had just enough time to finish out Schitt's Creek.

Then yesterday was our last day. We had another afternoon flight. So a quick look at the lake (Mary Beth had had another earlier while I was still getting ready) and back to her parents'. We took another walk around her neighborhood for a good while. We had leftovers for lunch that were tasty. We got our ride out to the airport. And yeah, Rochester's airport has some random classic arcade setup from some arcade museum type thing with a few cabinets and a giant Pong display with a giant screen and giant paddles. Mary Beth and I played but one of the paddles doesn't work too well and the other works very badly. So it was a draw, with whoever was not playing with the really bad one winning. It was fun though. The flight back was pretty uneventful. Back in Memphis's airport though we had our first hassle getting a taxi. There just weren't any and a bunch of people standing around. Eventually most of the people cleared out and finally a couple taxis came. It wasn't a terribly long wait but it gets a little uneasy when you don't know if they're even coming or not. Then we got home and got to see Trudy after so long and all was happy. Am I forgetting anything? Probably, though it was a pretty low-key trip.
