My manager'd given me the blessing to get off early yesterday, but then a bunch of stuff kept coming up from different directions in the afternoon and I wasn't able to. Oh well. Mary Beth and I did another walk after work. After dinner she had a whim of craving for cake so we drove out to Lucchesi's. Online it said they close at 8, but we got there at 7 on the dot and they were closing! But they were nice and let me run in and grab it real quick and I grabbed the cake real quick and went back home to eat it, nick of time! We ate it watching The Simpsons. We were watching a disc from the seventh season and the episodes towards the end were skipping more and more, leaving a couple unwatchable (including stone-cold classics like A Fish Called Selma and Bart on the Road). Then we tried another disc from the same season and that wouldn't even load! Pissing me off quite a bit as I keep my discs in the case and don't get them scratched up or anything. We finished up by switching to another season (but that season's so good and I want to watch those episodes!). Later at night I finished reading The Quest for Christa T. by Christa Wolf and it was good. Then Mary Beth finished reading to me Rubyfruit Jungle by Rita Mae Brown. Now I have today off and we slept in. Nice start!

maybe not a whim...they say when you're drying out, or really quitting any addictive behavior, your brain often wants sugar as a replacement. i still vividly remember my dad sitting on our orange velour couch after work and dinner in the '80s, watching tv and slowly but surely making his way through pints of ice cream to help him quit smoking. and donuts as an aa fixture, all that.

mmmm strawberry cake! mmmm surprise awesome crunchy toasty caramel. mmmm thank you!
