ateolf: (The Metamorphosis)

Mary Beth and I had another very lovely walk around the neighborhood in the very nice weather yesterday afternoon. Later in the evening we watched Gloria, the Cassavetes movie. It was pretty good. Sometimes the tone was a little weird going for that kind of kid-buddy movie thing, but there was some good stuff with it. Mary Beth did her usual Emily reading to me; and, as I have just started in on a Melville collection, she wanted to share "Bartleby, the Scrivner: a Story of Wall-Street" with me, so I read that aloud to her. I started in on it last night and finished it up this morning. It's most definitely a goddamn masterpiece and was Melville at the top of his game towering above the short story as much as Moby-Dick; or, the Whale towers above the novel. I'd almost feel sad that it's taken me this long to get to except that it goes to show there'll always be profoundly great literature out there waiting for me to read. Anyway, blathering a little about it. I was being a bit cryptic in yesterday's post, but I was talking about Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I found out a little before bed but wanted one of us to sleep well so I didn't tell Mary Beth about it til the morning. I had my cry in the morning. Anyway, not everything is terrible.
