Virtual Concert

ateolfWe did the streaming concert last night and I think it went better than expected! The only real big hiccup was in the beginning, I apparently didn't actually start the stream right and I was about ten minutes or so into my set when Mary Beth came in to let me know about the issue. I recorded it anyway so all isn't lost. But I was first and did an atypical set that prominently featured guitar in this long Tangerine Dream-esque sequence. Noiserpuss was next and had a really good set with cameos from Patti and one of the cats. I was a bit still in freak-out mode after the whole thing with my set. Pas Moi was next and had a really good set, doing some different stuff from when I'd seen them before. Revenge Body was next and played a good set with wires right in the camera. Someone said something about a "wire moustache" in the chat and that made me laugh. Aster was next and played a very nice, soothing set. He didn't have camera capabilities so he was going without video. I had the idea just during the set before to find some videos on youtube to show and found some John Whitney computer graphics. Natalie Hoffmann finished up the nice with a really great set, playing the stuff she played when I saw her soundtrack that art/fashion exhibit. At this point the laptop I was streaming from started heating up big time and there were a few moments where the sound got choppy and cut out but I proceeded to grab an ice pack to hold to the bottom of the laptop to help keep it as stable as possible. Overall there weren't too many hiccups. Actually the sound and video of the whole show far exceeded my expectations which was nice. I recorded the whole stream so it'll probably go up later.
Now I'm cutting over to talking about the rest of the day. I'll work backwards a little. I'll start with getting ready for the show. I had a little time to get in some last minute practice, but I'd been having issues with getting the stereo signals into my laptop to work. I'd figured out how to combine two usb inputs into the mac but one of the usb interfaces I was using was the old one that didn't always work right. I thought I'd gotten it working the other day but it really wasn't. Sometimes I could get it to cut in for a second but it never lasted. I tried playing around with a bunch of attempted fixes but nothing was working. Finally at the very last minute I got it set up so that I had my stereo signal mixed back into mono before going into the laptop, so at least all the information was there, just not panned. But I recorded it in stereo. Anyway, so right up to the moment of the show I was scrambling which didn't make for a great mindset, but whatever!
At work I finally had to do that presentation I was originally going to do a month ago. Was not looking forward to that but it went okay. I'm getting really annoyed by my aa key double-typing haalf the time. (I intentionally left the evidence intact in that last sentence.) I guess that's it. It's the weekend and I spent all morning just lying in bed not doing anything 'cuz we don't have to do anything today!
