Mary Beth and I went to the Dixon yesterday morning. They have a bunch of exhibits up right now. There's one on collage and it had a lot of good stuff. There was one on Augusta Savage (and other artists and art that went through her gallery during the Harlem Renaissance). Romare Bearden was a nice connector, having a prominent place in both exhibits. Oh, and I'll make note of how fantastic the Man Ray collages were. There was also a giant piece by Tim Rollins that had all of the pages of Kafka's Amerika as the background "canvas" and I was really into it even before I recognized the text. There was also a William Eggleston exhibit displacing the "permanent" impressionist displays. And there was an exhibit of Lawrence Matthews's photographs in the contemporary wing. Then after grocery shopping I worked on some music a little bit. Then Mary Beth and I watched some more She-Ra (almost done, only one more episode left). Then at night I went up to Two Rivers for the farewell party. It's going to be open full time for one more week and then part time after Heather starts her new job through the end of the month. It's been a great place so it's sad to be seeing it go, though the writing's been on the wall for a while now. Aside from the shows and how wonderful it was that such a bookstore existed, I never would have written that last story I wrote if it weren't for the place existing. And by extension, the novel that I have an idea for that was one of my new year's resolutions to write (though, uh, I haven't actually done a damn thing with it, so I guess that doesn't count at all, unless I finally get off my ass? I don't know...).
