Went to a pretty great show up at the Hi-Tone last night: Mike Honeycutt, Timber Rattle, Drekka, and Mykel Boyd. Mike Honeycutt was first and he had a pretty damn great set. Maybe one of his better ones. I mean, it was his sound but his sound is so goddamn great! Timber Rattle was good. Pretty drone based though with a tribal element. Kinda in that territory where industrial brushes up against hippie. He had a floor tom with him he'd hit with a drumstick and a, uh, stick-stick. Drekka was good. He has a very energetic stage presence for a such a drone- and ambient-based artist. He'd often get up and walk around his table. He was pretty much constantly in motion, whether performing ritualistic-seeming motions with his hands or moving or what. Mykel Boyd was really good as always. He had a pretty heavy drone set. There was a pretty good turnout. Lots of friends and some strangers and it was a nice time. I picked up some merch afterwards: Mykel Boyd: Fever Dream Three, Mykel Boyd and Blake Edwards: Military Secretary, v/a: ARMComm Sampler, Drekka | Timber Rattle | Mykel Boyd: Jan 2020 Tour Complication, Drekka: Sleep Patterns of the Discontent, Drekka: There Is No Silence Left. Also Colin gave me a copy of The Pop Ritual: It Sheds Again, their new album. Anyway, good time all around. Work was work. There was a very long town hall meeting, it was different than previous ones though (I guess 'cuz there's a pretty new Terminix president now, not to be confused with ServiceMaster CEO, of which there is still only interim).
