Kinda finished Mary Beth's Christmas present on time yesterday. It's a cover of "You Made Me Realise" (one of her favorite songs). The first guitar tracks I'd done on Sunday were a little distant and the distinction of the chords was starting to get lost when I added more instruments, so I recorded another track of guitar, di-ed through the modular. I also ran all the guitar tracks through the modular for some more texture. And that's about it, then it was about time for our gift exchange! It's not mixed down yet, but I was able to play it for her. She was very nice to me with some awesome presents. I got a few cds: Messiaen: Turangalîla Symphonie/Quatuor pour la Fin du Temps and Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band: Grow Fins: Rarities [1965-82] box set. Very nice on both counts! She also got me the Phaidon Atlas of Brutalist Architecture which is totally badass! Also got a bunch of warm socks (which you may not believe, but I've been wanting and needing 'cuz I'd previously had only four pairs), a trove of awesome buttons, and a promissory note "Good towards 'multis &/or patch cables' in the coming year." Very nice and I'm excited about all of it. I also had some Christmas soda (julmust). Trudy got a ton of presents and was totally overwhelmed by it all and she slept hard very soon thereafter. We watched All That Heaven Allows. It was the first Sirk I've seen. It was good and there's a lot to mull over. Now it's Christmas day and there will be more Christmassing to come.
