There was a thing for the Remix Memphis project that I contributed to a while back. Alex gave a little talk. He played a bunch of the sounds from the sound bank (the one all the musicians used in their songs) and rate them, or at least indicate a positive/negative reaction. Surprise, that I rated almost all sounds as positive (yeah okay, I generally like sounds). Then he played a bunch of the songs that were submitted and he played one from everyone who was there (so uh, that includes me). It was a bit awkward feeling having my song played while a bunch of people (or a few anyway, and largely strangers) listened as it's uh, not very "musical" (was done very much in a musique concrète style). Though the Revenge Body song was much more abrasive (I mean, my piece wasn't really abrasive at all, maybe a short little bit here and there but it's mostly kinda calm and peaceful, just not much resembling what most people expect from music). So yeah, Jacques was there and Luís (his Sci Fi Industries song was good and different, it had a jazzy bassline). Jonathan Kiersky and Jenny Davis did a really good thing (slow, drawn out cello and then there's train sounds and other sounds come in and Jenny's flute at the end...just on merit of having cello and train sounds, it makes one think of Godspeed, but overall not THAT much like them). There were a couple other songs too. Anyway, it was cool to hear everyone's song (if not a little embarrassing to hear mine, I mean, I like the song it's just (semi-)public attention makes me feel that no matter what). I did some solo grocery shopping yesterday. At night Mary Beth and I broke out Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective. We played the first case and took a very long number of hours and did very badly. To be fair, some of the "mechanics" are kinda stupid (like, you're told where this company's office is and you go there and you want to check out the factory but nothing tells you where the fucking factory is even though people talk about the factory and you're apparently just supposed to find it by looking through every fucking street on this map of London 'cuz you're only told the name of the street it's on and uh, yeah, fuck that mess). Also some other kinda annoying things about the way it's all set up. You're supposed to compare your points against the like 100 that Sherlock always has and we had like, uh, -200 or some shit. I dunno, it's kinda fun working to solve a mystery but some of the logic the game goes through feels a bit contrived. Anyway, it's a new day, and the last of this very long holiday weekend! I feel like I may start to be coming down with a cold. Let's hope not.
